A few days ago I got back from a trip of a lifetime. I know I said this before but this time I mean it (until the next one). I started out in Manila and after a 6 hour ride north to Baguio we found out it was 6 to 7 hours more before we get there. Wow, what a blow that was. It turns out it is 6 hours to another city called Sagada where we find out there is only 2 hours more in a Jeep. Not a Jeep Cherokee or even a covered jeep. NO! this is an open military type vehicle with 2 long wooden benches and no windows to keep out the dirt, rain, or even worse…fumes! So after feeling like Rocky Balboa (I am a hopeless movie freak) after Mr. T has worked on his rib cage from the pounding of the metal back rest on the jeep, we arrive only to find out it’s not the end! There is a last jeep ride that leaves at 2pm to Banaue where we will finally get a chance to see the Banaue Rice Terraces. To our shock and amazement we arrived at 1:45pm and quickly secured a seat on the last jeep of our journey. By the way, this was said to be a 6 hour trip from Manila to Banaue but time has a way of stretching. Here are some pictures showing a glimpse of my journey through the high mountains of Baguio to Banaue Rice Terraces all the way down south to the Visayas region of Bohol to see the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier Monkey!

I hope you enjoy it!

I always look forward to your posts. You will have endless stories for your future kids and grandchildren!

Stunning photos, fantastic scenes! Looks like a trip that in the end was worth a little uncomfortable riding and a sore back. Thank you very much for sharing, I feel like I just took the trip of a life time right here at my desk!

Awesome pics !!

I got married in the Phils. 16 years ago ( met her here) , and I went back two years ago. Way north,in the Cagayan valley, 12 hrs. by bus from Manila. Fantastic people, and an amazing country. I look forward to going there again.

hiwa = Tagalog (Filipino)...means to cut something.

When we went to Banaue from Dagupan, we went over to San Jose, then up from the east side via Bayombong and Lagawe. Although that looks like a much longer trip on the map, we talked with some people who knew the local road conditions and they warned us that the route through Baguio took a lot longer.

Chocolate Hills is on my list, I really want to go there.

That Reticulated Python has some nasty mouthrot, but its HUGE!!! Welcome back to the states!

Brings back a lot of memories, I spent quite a bit of time there in the 60's. Great shots.

Great photos!
You really capture stuff that I would walk right by.

Thanks much for sharing your adventure!

Incredible pictures Bear. Much as I hate jungles and tropical environments, that's some amazing stuff.

Welcome back.
