Folks,

A few years ago I purchased some journeyman blanks. They're about a foot in length and I believe they are A2. Was asked if they were heat treated. Does anyone know if they were? Or, is there an easy way to tell?

Thanks! Alan

I do not know the answer. But if you are thinking of selling one I would be interested.

[edit] a pic might help. are they just blanks or do they have a secondary bevel ground in them? I would think they would not be heat treated if they do not have a secondary bevel so you can work with them...

You can take a file and test the part. If a file slides across the part and doesnt dig in, pretty
good indication they are heat treated. Untreated, will file easily. The file will just slide across
the part like its on glass if its heath treated.
