My new journeyman is a little sluggish to open. Will this "break in" or is there a method to facilitate easier opening? The Emerson "tech" recommended that I not take it apart, clean it, re lube etc. He told me that it would break in with time.

I just noticed that my journeyman's blade is a little uncentered when closed. Is that something to be concerned with?

A lot of Emersons do require a break-in period. A quick glance through this subforum should yield a handful of threads on how to deal with lock stickiness and rough blade opening.

The short version: just use it. I will break-in and become smooth as ever in due time.

just noticed that the pivot screw is barely thumb tight from the factory. If I use my thumb to turn the screw counter clockwise it turns with ease. If I turn it 1/8th turn clockwise past the factory setting it gets tighter (screwdriver) but becomes too tight to open/close without effort. Should I set it back to the factory spot or send it back to Emerson?

After using my Journeyman a lot for a couple weeks, the blade got really off-center so I took it apart and flipped one of the washers; that centered the blade for a few more weeks. Unfortunately, after using it a lot for a couple months, my blade is too off-center to use -- unless I super-tighten the pivot screw. I'm sending my Journeyman to EKI for some re-tuning since they can do a much better job than I can...I've always had great experiences with their customer service.

This guy has to be trolling. All of this is basic knife maintenance. Youtube how to center an Emerson blade.
