Journeyman or CQC-10? (Or even the CQC-8??)

Guys,

I'm loving my new Emersons but I just can't help but look at more...

Would love your thoughts/ comparisons/ experiences of any or each of the knives detailed above. Right now, I have passed up on the 10 to get my Roadhouse but I feel like the versatility of my 7-AW might be nice in a slightly bigger package. Closest to that looks like the Journeyman and I know that this knife has been discontinued. I guess that makes me lean towards it slightly over the other options.

As always, thanks for your input in advance...

Ben

Even though the Journeyman is discontinued it can still be found fairly easily at most online retailers and on the Emerson website I believe. I liked my Journeyman that I had but I didn't love it. The handle didn't fit my hand as well as some other models. I've also had the CQC-8 but again I didn't like the handle as I felt it was too thin. I like the design of the CQC-8 and will be picking up a Super model eventually since the handle will be bigger. Both of them are great knives and would serve you well.

As far as the CQC-10, I'll never own an Emerson without a thumb disk. That's just my personal preference though. The CQC-10 is a very popular model and the blade shape looks like it would do equally well in an EDC or tactical role.

I like both of these models have carried my Journeyman more than my 10. If you like how the Roadhouse feels you will like the 10. Journeyman handle feels more like the Commander to me. I wouldn't discount the 10 for not having a thumb disk, though I do prefer the disk to the hole, the oval hole isn't the easiest to use but it isn't terrible. They have almost the same size blade but the 10 will give you a lot of blade for the overall size where the Journeyman has more handle.

I have both the cqc-8 and the horseman I love them both and carry both at work everyday. The handle is a little thin but overall it's one the most comfortable knives I've had.

I have or have had the vast majority of Emerson models. For me, the Ten is easily one of the best, most versatile of all.

Different hands will have different favorites.

The 10 became my first Emerson after I was able to fondle every single folder they had at a knife show.

Another 10 fan here. Feels great in the hand, waves easier than the 8, lots of blade but a smaller footprint than the 8 or Journeyman. I'm a little bias, I want to like the 8, it just doesn't work for me.

Personally I'd get the journeyman, I think it has the best overall size. That's my opinion though. Also, I'm another who wouldn't get the 10 because it has the thumb hole. The cqc-8 is nice, a big knife but rides well in the pocket.

Another huge CQC-10 fan here. I'm a much bigger fan of the thumb hole than thumb disks. It's also a nice blade shape for all of the cutting tasks that I have.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts and experiences!

Gooeytek with comments like that and combined with Officer's Match "I have or have had the vast majority of Emerson models. For me, the Ten is easily one of the best, most versatile of all..." added to endorsements from watertower and tokerblue was just what I needed to push me over the edge.

I have pulled the trigger on a 10 to get here before I have to leave again. I know that I have spent a heap on Emerson's in the last month or so and will absolutely have to calm my ass down re. spending from here on in (but I won't be back Stateside until March). Anyway - a ten is getting added to my Emerson stable! ;)

You will love you new Ten, just a really great knife. I bought one for my daughter to take to college, and she still carries it daily.

I think its safe to say I agree with your choice. I have been looking at the Journeyman, especially after learning that its being discontinued. I still may pick one up but I just grabbed a Roadhouse so that will have to be put off.

Thanks guys!

Officer's Match - know that your opinion counted in my making the decision. And Crazy Kash, that is a great photo!

Thanks again...

(In the meantime I am really enjoying how different my Roadhouse is to anything I have ever had! ;) )
