Joy in sharpening knives

For many decades now, I owned knives that were, let's say, 'challenging' to sharpen. No, I am not an expert sharpener, but I know a certain spot on the wall that has a good imprint of my forehead on it. (Not just from knives, the wall gets lots of attention.) Many of the older knives I have are good at resisting corrosion, not so much for taking or keeping an edge. They HAVE however giving me much cause to practice stone sharpening. My ages old stone sharpener has been wallowed and broken over many years, but I still use it.
Then you come across steel that has 'good quality' for taking and holding an edge, what a difference! Yes, these days, the options for sharpeners are myriad. I don't pretend to know which is which, which is better for what. Regardless, the starting point is metallurgical. I have really come to enjoy wearing the edge on these 'better quality' steel blades, like the Becker's, just to marvel at the ease of sharpening.
I just touched up my go to BK-15 with my well used stone and a leather strop, done in 5 minutes. And I was goofing off! :)
