This is a nice example of JR Cook's river boat fighter with ancient walrus ivory provided by owner Jon Brand. The mineralification pattern (is that even a word?) suggests an active climatic and/or geologic epoch in history and probably a ton of volcanic activity. Remember I know nothing about such matters. I just know what I think of when I look at the beautiful knife.
The other thing I'm thinking is this knife would make a great end times boot knife, like in a movie or something. ;)
The tapered tang is noteworthy given the density and weight of the fossil tusk.
It helps produce a nicely balanced hand piece when nothing less will do. And the damascus is deep (lots of b&w contrast).

It's a beautiful knife. Undeniable. I love your candid and flowing descriptions. Guffaws and all. (Is that a word? ;))

I love the perspective of the pieces. They join somewhere out there. I can see that. :) Angular lines with curvy swervy background. YOU understand. ;)

Very nice little Fighter.
I really like how JR gets such nice damasccus contrast from his deep etch process.

Joe, I'll let you know when the knife comes in and I can measure it. The original ivory didn't get along to well with the climate here in NY so I had to switch it out and I used that tusk I bought at Blade 2010. I think it looks even nicer now! And Buddy did a great job on this photo. Buddy, thanks for posting!

I've only re-handled 2 or 3 knives, but each time I've liked the second one better. Great pic of a terrific little knife. You put that ivory to good use, Jon.

AWESOME knife Jon! CONGRATS! and also to J.R., who has been making some killer knives!

Jon that is a wonderful blade, the damascus pattern and contrast is very dramatic, great blade and handle shape, full tang and some beautiful ivory.
