JRE EMS sharpening block

I've had one since 2008.

I got the complete kit.

It works great and can take an edge from "all beat to heck" to scary sharp if you've got a little time to invest.

What I find really funny is that I just saw a picture of JRE Dan at PWYP this year sharpening a knife with one of these. I think that says a lot if the guy who makes 'em continues to use 'em... :)

I tend to leave mine set up with high-grit paper but having the complete kit allows me to get some really, really coarse grits easily without having to set up a half dozen different blocks.

Did you get one or are you still thinking about getting one?

I ended up getting one ages ago but gave up trying to sharpen on it. I'm just not getting it man. I dont understand. I've watched countless videos and looked at pictures etc but nope, it just will not get sharp.

I have an edge pro apex that I use for my V edge knives and I can get them all shaving, mirror sharp. I'm bummed, I love the convex grind for bushcraft, but I just dont understand

I purchased one when they were first released, the perfect tool for convex sharpening IMO.

You are not getting a sharp edge for one of two likely reasons. Too much pressure or uneven pressure. Too much pressure will simply round out the apex making the edge dull and obtuse. Uneven pressure will cause greater and lesser degrees of convexity over the length of the edge. The later is much easier to mess up because you need to learn how to vary the pressure as you move the blade over the abrasive. Less pressure in the belly and tip, and a slight increase of pressure as you reach the flatter section of the blade approaching the heel and more edge is contacting the surface.

Also, if it's not sharp and shaving hair by 320-400 grit then going finer won't help.
