This past week I was at the New England School of Metalworking. Christoph Deringer was my teacher for integral knives. I also had a chance to do my performance test for my JS. It was a success :)

Thanks for the input over the past couple of years:thumbup:

Congratulations!!! :) I know it's a nerve wracking affair! :)

Not to rain on your parade, but I highly recommend you contact Greg Neely about this: I thought it a requirement that the test blade have a handle of some sort. The web-site says no special handle configuration is required, so maybe not... ? But I really did think so, and just in case that is a rule, I'd hate for you to get to Atlanta and get cut-off at the knees for something like that. It would be worth asking!!! :)

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the info. I did Have a wrap and a lanyard for the chopping portion.
I will contact Greg to find out what if any action I should take.

Hi Nick,
Just got off the phone with Greg. JS doesn't have to have a handle.MS has to have a handle on a hidden tang.
Thanks for the Heart attack!!!!
Just Kidding, If it weren't for guys like you I would not have gotten this far!!!!
Thanks

Congratulations!!! Dave way to go. I know all about that grin you had on your face.

Now all you need to do is fire up that Little Giant and make six blades the very best you know how and you'll have it licked.

Good luck and way to go.

Dave from Diller

This past week I was at the New England School of Metalworking. Christoph Deringer was my teacher for integral knives.

I've spoken to Christoph in person and handled his work many times. His finish forging of an integral is exemplary. I would love to learn what you did and look forward to owning a few of his pieces.

YAY! Way to go!
So, did you go with an edge quench or with clay on it? When I borrowed your ht kiln, you were still batting back and forth.

congrats,
kc

Awesome Dave! I hope Greg didn't chew me up too badly on my comment!!! He just mentioned at a Js and Ms testing seminar in Texas that you shouldn't take advice from DarkDog, DeathDog, or... HotDog on the forums, as they probably don't know what the hell they're talking about! :o

I just wasn't sure and would hate to see a guy have problems in Atlanta over such a thing. I figured it better to mention it just in case.

Congratulations again, this is a huge step toward and EVEN BIGGER STEP!!!

I'm rooting for 'ya!!! :)

Congrats Dave! From the looks of the knives on your site, it doesn't appear that you'll have any trouble in Atlanta.

Rick
