Here's the second knife for Atlanta...5160, desert ironwood, stainless guard w/coined nickle silver spacers, 13 in. overall, David Seward sheath w/ostrich inlay. I welcome comments, though this will of course get a review from several mastersmiths, before going to Atlanta...just so y'all know I'm not expecting a fit & finish critique from a photo. Tell me what you think,

Beautiful work. Great wood, and the sheath is top notch. I really like the coined spacers.

Ben, looks like she's put together pretty well, buddy.
Nothing seems to conflict and both fit and finish appear high caliber.
I think you're doin' good.

Looking good, Ben. The coining is a nice touch.Looks like you're well on the way.

See you in Atlanta.

Judging from the picture that looks great Ben. Nice profile, materials and the work on the spacer is a nice detail.

The sheath looks very good also.

Nice package, really like your crisp plunge lines. It may just be the pic but make sure you sharpen the tip to a real point, I've heard several judges say they would fail an applicant if they saw a knife with a blunted tip. It's easy to do on a stone.
Good luck!!

Ben, I like everything about this knife sheath combo;) told you so last Saturday. The coined spacer adds a touch of class, raised clip and guard give a nice flow to it too. Good luck with the JS test, sure you will pass it ok with the work like you are now turning out.

Thanks for the comments. I'm giving it the once over today...Lin Rhea says it'll be more like a dozen over, knowing how I am. This has been a new experience for me, a lot of firsts...first guard like this, first coined spacers, and first handle of this style. All in all I'm pleased with the results. It also sports a nice, wavy clay-harden line(different for 5160, but doable), and a peak on the spine...a couple little suprises for the future owner. Rick, just can't imagine where this one's going;)

Nice looking knife!

It's probably obvious to everyone, thus the reason it hasn't been mentioned, but... the sheath won't be presented with the knife at the judging, correct?

I don't think it could be because it's not made by Ben.
I've been told by more than one MS that a maker can present their sheath, however it's risky because if presented a maker can fail solely on that sheath.

that's pretty much all I had to say about this knife. Other than that I'm pretty fond of the way it looks.
