Good day to you all, Some information on one of my recent acquisitions.
I love my MD Panther and Wild Thing 3/16", having acquired both from Shannon Lew some time back. However, the Dundee rig, while fairly comfortable in jeans and heavier clothing, was less than adequate for my needs. Having a strap across my chest is not an option, since my profession requires shirt & tie each day. After some correspondence with Colin Thompson, I decided to send my Panther to James for a SB3 carrying system, and my Wild Thing for an Associate carry system.
I am very happy with both of these systems. The Panther rig is more concealable, now that there are no straps across the chest and the stability of the harness is not dependent on the tension of a single strap. The harness itself is similar to my Galco Miami Classic; the knife angle can be varied by repositioning sheath on the velcro. James used the original Mad Dog sheath and coated it with his Riggercoat finish. The strapping system keeps the handle in the same position, regardless of my body position.
For the Wild Thing, the Associate rig is a perfect match. This is a crossdraw system, with the draw across the chest, with the knife held halfway between the nipple and the armpit. The rig holds the handle pivoted back toward the side of the body. The sheath can also be held down to your belt with an optional heavy elastic strap.
All of this adds up to a stable platform that stays in one place for a consistent draw. It carries very light, conceals well with a sportcoat and draws in a blur.
The scenario of "give me your wallet" comes to mind. Draw the blade rather than the wallet and cut deep across his face, aiming for the eyes. Few injuries elicit greater primal reactions than a face/eye cut.
I am looking forward to the MD Panther class in March and integrating all this equipment together.
Enjoy life
