JTF 2 or Joint Task force two: Trained similar to the SAS, this counter terrorist Canadian military unit is impressive.

Some of my research has lead me to learn of some of their MA training.
Arnis/Thai Boxing/Wing Chun/Silat

Their knives of choice: I was told by a good souce that the prefered knife of choice used for protection is the Karambit.

Does any one have any more infromation on this?

Using two Karambits the soldier immobilizes with the first knife & finnishes the jobwith the other.

A quick search found this, but I was not able to get any information on the knives they use. They appear to be some Bad Mutha's tho. :cool:

Ghost Kobun;

Are you after information concerning the Task Force itself ? ... or the actual knives/karambit ?

I would be curious to know what brand of karambit they use, it can be a devastating weapon in the hands of a skilled individual, especially with one in each hand.

A buddy of mine who is ex-airborne met some of the JTF 2 during manuvers outside Ottawa. He said they're a secretive lot and keep to themselves quite often not even talking to the reg forces there. So info might be kinda hard to come by.Good luck at any rate.

The information was regarding the use of the Karambit. It is a great weapon, & my source says that the first Karambit is used to pin the threat. After it is immobilized the second knife comes into play. As for the JTF2, all information is appreciated.

Your right on on that one; the JTF2 try to act like regular people. They are trained to blend into the enviroment. They look like regular people, yet physicaly & mentally they surpasse us all.

I had the pleasure of meeting two JTF 2 guys, & did their weddings arrangments. Are you from the really deep woods of Canada??

If you are after use of the karambit, http://www.karambit.com has some information in the training section, and in the review section of http://www.themartialist.com.

The first karambit can be used to subdue the opponent, and it needs to be within close quater range for the karambit to be truely effective. Especially in a grappling situation, the first can slice tendons and so forth, and then the second would be used to disembowel the opponent accross the stomach, slice through the neck and so on. It is a vicious instrument, and when used properly can be quite effective. It is designed to be held in both hammer and icepick grips, as well as an extended grip using the ring in the end.
Hope this helps in any way, I've recently been interested in researching it's ancient indonesion techniques, as that is where the karambit is derived from.
Also try kerambit, as different sites spell it this way. :)

Thanks for the information. The Karambit mimicks the tigers claw, thus it also can be used in other stles of the MA. It is very effective in Kenpo Karate.

Take care
