Julie has created fewer than 12 sole authorship pieces, almost all for the Art Knife Invitational. This one was made for and sold at the 2007 AKI.

She and husband Curt are primary reasons I don't ever want to miss the AKI, held every other year in San Diego. This year's show will be on October 29, 2011.

This particular piece attracted me because it is both simply elegant and elegantly simple - with some of the creamiest, dreamiest carved African elephant ivory I've ever seen.

EDIT: Image added of dagger IN sheath to show entire look.

wow... just amazing work. I have the greatest respect for people who that kind of all-around talent.

Not hard to see why that appealed to you - that's right up your alley. It's a beautiful and elegant piece in every respect, but the delicate carving of the ivory is my favourite feature.

Congrats my man.

Another spectacular piece for sure. Julie does it all and it is a real treat to see one of her rare sole authorship pieces. A real artist at work at the highest level.

Thanks for sharing this beauty.

I echo what Roger said. That carved ivory is sublime on a truly beautiful piece. And boy that Coop photo is nice..

I remember that VERY well!! I concur with the opinions expressed and commend Coop for capturing all the exquisite details in the photo.

Wonderful work by Julie, (and Coop.)

The ivory carving and the tiny gold beading on the spacers are delightful.

Julie's work never ceases to amaze me...that handle carving is out of this world!!!

Might as well add an Eggly image to this thread, since it already existed. Coop's shows the handle color more to the mind's eye, but the Eggly shot for some reason is situated so that it catches some of the carving angles better.

Actually, it's nice to have both images from both Coop and Eric, because each seems to catch a different side of this dagger.

..... I am blown away by the carving of the ivory, the lines on the blade, the guard, the sheathe.
Sublime is the feeling.
Perfection is the adjective.
Art is the noun.
Slobbering is the action.

What a privilege to enjoy seeing this knife.

Thank you.

KNIVES 2012 - Julie Warenski and her work will be discussed in an article by Don Guild, beginning on page 8, in the new addition of Knives (2012), at least so I've heard.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the article. Julie is one of my favorite artists!

Eric's photo DOES present a different and striking image.
