A sole authorship Persian piece by Julie Warenski. She's only put out about 12 pieces over a four year period (two of which were just acquired), so I thought viewers might like seeing one (2009 AKI). Hippo ivory scales. (SEE POST 29 FOR ONE MORE)

Vunderbar! What a rare and elegant score.

Good for YOU!

That is beautiful. I knew she did great engraving & helped Buster with a lot of knives but I never knew she made any on her own.

Here's how it happened:

After Buster Warenski's passing, Julie wanted to learn how to grind - in the tradition of Buster - and Lynn Erickson asked his son Curt if he could teach her (Curt was the only one who was taught by and worked for Buster). He and Julie met, he began to show her how he and Buster worked together - and a year later, they had fallen in love and got married.

That was the beginning of Julie's knifemaking career. But as I understand it, she's decided to only make knives for the AKI these days. Her preference is to continue engraving Curt's work and that of outside customers.

Best,

Bob Betzner

EDIT: It should be noted that she has, for many years, also been regarded as a world-class carver/sculptor of handles, etc. - not just for her engraving.

ps: here is another example of her work, not owned by me (I wish!), below:

Since you mentioned her carving, I just happened to shoot this particular knife that Julie carved for Warren Osborne.

Top-o-the-line!

Thanks for sharing the pictures and the story- it's beautiful all around. And makes the knife all the more special.

Beutiful lines and a very elegant overall impression. That ivory is gorgeous. Congrats Bob!

Congrats Bob!! You must be thrilled to have that little beauty. I've seen a couple pictures of sole authorship Julie knives, but none similar to that. One of her early, if not first, sole authorship knives was pictured in Blade, winning a "Best" in show award a while back.

I've been a huge fan of Julie's engraving since first seeing it on Hitchmough folders some years ago. She has amazing talents!

Thanks for some history on the knife, Bob. I knew Julie Warenski is a world class engraver, and I heard thats how she met Buster. Buster was a great engraver as well as all the other things he did. She was his "student". Obviously some of his talent rubbed off on her.

wow, is all I have to say.

Julie makes quite a beautiful knife. Thank you for posting this, Bob! The Persian has wonderful lines and flows so nicely. That dagger is out of this world. Would love to have both of those residing in our collection.

Coop, the piece you shot has so much going on it must have been crazy in
person.

I own a couple of knives with Julie's engraving and have seen many pics. Would love to see more of her knives if anyone has photos.

Hi Rob. If you scroll down her gallery page you will fine a few of her sole authorship pieces. I believe one of her big Art Daggers won "best of show" at Solvang 4-5 years ago. http://www.warenskiknives.com/gallery2.htm

Rob, if you take the three pieces mentioned in this thread and the three daggers shown within the above link, that would leave only six others - so it may be tough finding any other images.

Bob

EDIT: I just found an image of "The Desk Dagger" from the AKI 2009, shown below.

Congratulations! What an amazing talent she is. I too was unaware of her knifemaking but boy is it spectacular. The apple certainly did not fall far.
