I just picked up one of these today and will say that I am quite happy that I did. I know a lot of folks prefer folders to fixed blades, but for whatever reason, I have an affinity for fixed and will often pick a fixed over a folder if I can only have one. Anyway, I LOVE the size of this knife and the thinness of the handles. Add to that @ 4.5 inches of care-free serrated H1 for some seriously bad-arse cutting power and it is an absolute winner in my book! I love when I find a seemingly less popular diamond in the rough.

In a month or two, I am planning on hiking the Oregon Coast Trail. This baby, as well as a Siren and the Waterway, are major contenders for the one knife I will take. A serrated Salt may be in consideration too.

Hi Chris,

Thanx much for the kind comments. In my opinion, for shear long term cutting power, the Jumpmaster 2 and a Golden stone are good for a "Bug-out-bag",

I've got a Jumpmaster 1 w/the sheepsfoot blade and have been going back/front about also buying the Jumpmaster2 just to have both blade styles.

For hiking/camping, I think the JM2 would do find as a general purpose camp knife for cutting "stuff" but for food prep I'd prefer to use the SpydieChef instead. Not sure how the spine of the H1 would stand up to dragging a magnesium bar across it to start a camp fire but there are other options.

I don't know about magnesium but I just tried to use my H1 pac salt to scrape a ferro rod. It didn't make much spark. Even tried the sharpened edge. The small carbon steel striker that it came with provided much better spark. Magnesium is pretty soft though. Should be able to make a good pile with any knife.

The PM2 is such a great feeling knife. I love it and hope we get a plain edge version too, ideally in something like 3v, cruwear, z-wear, etc.

. . . got lucky with the strap on sheath with the 1.

Yeah, one of the reasons that I "jumped" on the JumpMaster was to be able to buy/wear the leg strap too. LOL! ;)

A little off topic, but…
I primarily use the sharp edge of a pair of blunt-tip children's scissors as a scraper for ferro rods. You only need carbon steel when striking flint; even glass will work with a ferro rod. Of course you have to have the right technique, but I've found the scissors to be a better scraper than anything else I have tried. And at the end of the day, if you need a small pair of scissors for something, you're "Golden" (pun intended)! Two pair cost me just over a buck at the dollar store.
