Finally got to do some chopping with my Junglas I was looking for a maple but where I was hardest I could find was this elm to my right.

It had a small tree growing right along side of it,so get rid of that first.

I hope when people are testing their blades they aren't needlessly chopping down live trees unless they're on your property. I'm no tree hugger but it's just unnecessary.

For the most part I will agree, but I regularly clear smaller secondary growth to give more room for the rest of the trees to breath and get light. We use to burn off our woods every year and it made for a much healthier forest. Now the stuff has gotten to thick to burn since it would kill trees instead of inducing new growth.

+1...

I am a tree hugger.

Good point on trimming out undergrowth Jeff... I just close my eyes and hope there was a need to taking a healthy tree instead of some guy in the woods who just wants to play chop chop.

Ive been back into "bushcraft" for about a year now... I have yet to have the need to take a live tree. Plenty of deadfall for traps, shelters, fun projects, and fire building.

Now, chopping up a naturally fallen tree with a Jungla, thats sounds like some good fun!

This is my bosses property he's having two acres cleared out just to open,it up he might build on it he might not.I was helping my friend who is my bosses son(he married almost a year ago)get the last of his crap out of his Dads house.so I had the green light to chop on anything I wanted.I was looking for a maple but no maple.no I wasn't on a day hike or making a shelter, like so many awesome posts here I was only 15 yards in the woods and down there for a hour and a half honky had to go back to the city. not very adventurous.

Isn't it so much fun to chop stuff???!!! When I got my junglas I went chop crazy!!!

I'm bit of a tree hugger, I also love to cut them down occasionally. I guess the wiser amongst us would concede that there are other people on the planet and they have an ability to judge their actions probably better then us as they are actually there at the time. Given that it is only a couple of percent that lead the rest of us to believe that everyone needs constant supervision I tend not to assume the worst but enjoy the tail. And try to have a bit of tolerance for times some one is doing something that is not quite what I would do. The idiot brigade still solicit a predictable response from me. :barf:

Your post appears mean-spirited.

I consider myself an environmentalist as well, but Exidor explained the situation...sooo why don't we enjoy and comment on the pics and the blade!

Cool pics Exidor:thumbup: I can't wait to head on my camping trip to Algonquin park to work out my blades:D

thanks:thumbup: I'm looking forward to spending some real time out doors later this summer.

Yes where ever this thread is going I still had a freakin blast!
+1!
I was out this weekend clearing honeysuckle and other unwanted woody stuff between storms - and giving a buddy a chance to compare the job the Junglas can do on skinny stuff compared to his CS machete.
Technique is a good thing in situations like that - and knowing when to duck. (he missed a duck and got a pretty decent scratch on the side of his face from a honey locust thorn)
This morning he looked out the back door and commented on how much fun we must have been having as the view is completely different now. (honey locust is a weed here - and this stand was about 15 or 20 feet long by 6-8 feet wide and 8-12 feet tall)

I was hoping to see some mad elm-batonning action! It'd be interesting to see how it fared against nasty twisted seasoned elm.

Sorry AF:o, I was off on my hobby horse and forgot I had quoted you in there. It wasn't aimed at you, just an attempt to broaden everyone's view on the activities of others and a little plea for tolerance.::D
