Junglas adjustable tensioner on the Kydex sheath

Hello everybody.

I'm having a problem on my Junglas Kydex sheath. I was wondering if anybody could chime in.

The adjustable tensioner on the Kydex sheath does not lock the knife into place.
I can have the tensioner all the way in the "up" or "on" position and I'm still able to pull the Junlgas out with little ease. Is this normal? I don't think it's normal and I have a hardware problem with the Kydex sheath.

I also own the ESEE-5 which also includes the adjustable tensioner on the Kydex sheath.
When the adjustable tensioner is in the "up" or "on" position, I am not able to pull the knife out. The knife is held into the sheath with lots of force.

Attached is a photo

I bought the Junglas from Dale with T-K-C.com on 10/16/2010. Wondering if I could simply exchange this knife/sheath for another one. If not, should I assume I can send it in to ESEE for free replacement? I bought the ESEE Junglas because I wanted to match with the ESEE-5. The ESEE-5 also has the Junglas adjustable tensioner on the sheath, I wanted both of my sheaths to have them. It was one of the "pros" in debating if I should buy the Junglas or not.

Anybody else had this problem on their Junglas or ESEE-5 sheaths? Maybe there is a simple fix? I've tried to tighten the screw, but the adjustable tensioner did not work.

Thanks for your help!

Hmm... mine works just fine. In that position, it is quite difficult to pull out the knife.

That is, I can't just use my thumb to push it out of the locked position. I'm assuming you mean you can still do that even with the tension set to max?

I'm sure if you contact ESEE they will work something out with you =)

I'm not able to pull it out with my thumb only. Is that the whole purpose?
On my 5, I hold both the sheath and knife and pull hard. I'm not able to break it lose. I assumed that was how it worked.

Am I wrong? :p

You should not be able to thumb the junglas out of its sheath with the tensioner set to max. With that said, if you pull hard enough on the handle and the sheath you will probably be able to extract it.

Have you tried tightening the tensioner screw up? Mine actually came loose and fell off from frequent drawing of the blade and I tightened it back up and it works great now.

Have you tightened the other two screws closest to the opening?

Hmmm dunno if your photo is playing tricks on my eyes, but you might still be able to move your tension screw a bit. Loosen it ALL the way (even completely unscrew?) and slide it to the top as far as possible and lock it down.

I can thumb push my Junglas with the tension set at about halfway. That is a fairly firm thumb push though, but it's not so loose that it would rattle or fall out if I shook it upside down.

As Jeff said, your knife shouldn't be 100% "stuck" in the sheath. That would be pretty useless to you, unless you were storing it for transport or jumping out of a plane

And if you're doing that, there's the fold over flap with the paracord draw on it to secure the knife totally into place.

Do many of you guys use that tension screw? I noticed when I got my Junglas that half of the screw was missing. I haven't worried about it too much just because I haven't really seen a need to use it.

I removed my tensioner completely. When the Zombie's attack, I don't want to be held up any more than I have to...

Thank you for your post.

I think the tensioner screw came loose from the retailer. I did not "freak out" because I know how to tighten it. I've tried it, it did not help.

Have you tightened the other two screws closest to the opening?

I have not. This could be a winning factor. I'll try this once I get home. Thanks.

Your eyes are correct. I'm still able to move the tension screw, in the photo. The photo was just a general photo of both of the tensioners.

Thanks. I get the whole idea now. I was mistaking the "thumb push" for an all out "pull as hard as you can with both hands." :p

I’ll try some more “repairs” once I get home.
Thanks everybody for all the comments!! =)

In my opinion anything tighter than a thumb push is not safe. With that said there is always the factor of travel (flying) and jumping.

I don't need it often but when I do I'm happy to have it. For a canou tour I replaced it with a thumb screw. It's faster than using my Leathermans screwdriver. :)

By thumb screw do you mean like a wing nut? Cuz that sounds like a good idea.
