So regarding the ESEE Junglas, their 10-inch monster of a knife. So if you're not going to chop with a Junglas because a) you already have 2 real, very nice machetes, and 2) you already have countless axes of every size and shape and are real handy with an axe, what do you need with a Junglas?

Here's why I ask. I have a sickness...I buy knives. I bought one. It's neat. It's big. It's sharp. It is rediculously well made and nice. But I won't chop with it...too light for axe work (remember I have countless axes), to short for proper machete work (got two of them). So I am thinking, I got the thrill of buying the thing and I don't like it that much and with the proceeds from the sale well guess what? I can buy another knife or two...or maybe a nice .22 rifle that I am wanting.

So, if you're not going to chop with a Junglas, what are you going to do with it?

Help me, I am sick.

HQ, I do chop with mine. I have hatchets, axes, machettes, etc., but I use the Junglas more around our property than all the above. My reasoning, and this is just my personal opinion, is a hatchet or axe has about 3"-4" of blade to hit what I am aiming at . . . . the Junglas has about 8"-9" of blade to use, and being on the other side of 50, the odds are in my favor with the 8"-9" piece of hitting what I am aiming at . . . . . :D
As far as your addiction, good luck. I have looked for over 40 years to find a cure, no luck so far.
Bad thing is I have the same affliction with fishing rods and reels as well . .
Be safe.

There's a guy on the forums who uses his to cleave apart live, wild, angry pigs. I'm sure you could find a use for it.

You could always mod it! :D

I have machetes, axes and .22 rifles. There are some instances when the nature of the wood being cut, it's proximity to valuable property, only needing one or two well placed strikes (instead of thrashing with a machete) calls for a big, razor sharp chopper.

My wife had two bushes that were driving her nuts, under her sink window. The machete bounced off of one and throwing a big snap cut 1/4 inch from our home's siding was out of the question, same with the .22 and an axe. Out came the Junglas. Chop, chop and chop. Problems solved.

If you give it time, the need for the Junglas will become apparent and you'll be glad you have it.

Bryfry: I was seconds from directing him to those pictures :D

There is no resisting that awesomeness :)

I use mine to chop with, simply because it is more fun to use. Of course, I am a large knife person who prefers to chop and baton things rather than use an axe. However, it is just an overall fun blade to use for whatever a smaller knife doesn't do very well. It can't chop as good as an axe, but it is more fun to use than one. (In my opinion, that is)

Been there, done that, chopped with it, and for lighter chopping its hard to beat a junglas type of blade. You will find its lighter than most axes, holds an edge longer, and you can use it for other knife duties. Jack of all trades you might say.

Wow the finish on that knife Is awesome ,I don't have a Junglas but I definitely am going to get one ,one like that would be great ! any info???

Thanks! I customized that Junglas using pretty basic tools and chemicals + a good amount of elbow grease! :D

Just PM me if you would like more info on it.

EDIT: oops, looks like you can't do PM, I did show a few more pics with a bit more info in this thread though:

I'm not big into ESEE, but BryFry, that thing is AWESOME!!

Anyway, I guess you could always baton with a Junglas.

WOW, that is unreal! Very very nice work there...My Junglas feels a little less special now, might have to get the files out and mod it a bit.

Regarding the question: The Junglas makes a great home defense blade haha.

just buy one and you will become bad ass. The junglas can baton for firewood, separate game, act as a self defense weapon after ammo runs out, it can build a shelter and for shits and giggles can perform admirably at competition chopping around the campfire.

I bought one for camp. Have not used it yet, so I have no reports or complaints. Not a fan of hatchets, and will not be chopping down trees to any great degree (and if I do, they will be small in diameter). But after I get a chance to use it, admittedly I might be in the same boat the OP is in. It seems to be highly recommended, but what I am willing to put up with and what others put up with and call good will differ. I have high hopes though.
