Hello all,
I would appreciate opinions on two knives I've narrowed down to my big knife. (and if I should consider others in the 160 to 210 price range) I love my ESEE4 but I wanted something big enough to chop and split. The bravo 2 is about 40. to 50. more but still in my budget.

Thanks,
Steve

Love me some junglas!!!

Of those two, the Bravo 2.

I own and use a Bravo 2 as one of my large camp knives and it is a great performer, good steel, and comfortable grip.

No experience with the Junglas, but I'm sure it is also a very solid performer.

I'm just not a fan of coated blades and I find RAT/ESEE handles don't fit my hand well. Although the ergos on the Junglas handle look to be an improvement.

Performance wise, I suspect you will be very pleased with either one.

The Fallkniven A2 is also a great knife, but I don't think you will find a new one within your budget range.

Kevin

The Junglas would be a much better chopper than the Bravo II. The Bravo would perform very well with a baton, which is how I usualy use even my big blades. It's just way more efficient from a work stand point. As well as far safer which cannot be overstressed in a wilderness scenario.

I would also say the Jungalas, if you plan on chopping with it. The bravo II just seems too short and balanced (more of a fighter than a blade heavy chopper). I used the jungalas too chop through about a 10" diameter madrone with no hot spots and felt comfortable in hand for me. If you don't mind waiting there will be a bravo III coming out next year that will be more of the jungalas size but thicker blade stock (better for heavier stuff like wood, worse for lighter vines and vegetation compared to the thinner bladed jungalas) and made of CPM-3V. I'd suggest using that time to save up though with that big of a blade in 3V it will probably be fairly spendy.

Junglas gets my vote, although I haven't tried a Bravo 2 yet. For half the price, the ESEE Lite Machete can actually do what the Junglas does, some of it better, some of it not quite as well.

As far as BRK's, I'd also consider the Golok. It's halfway between the Junglas and Lite Machete -- very versatile tool. Sorry, I know you didn't ask about other knives. I know the feeling when you ask about one or two specific knives and people chime in with all sorts of wacky suggestions. I'm surprised nobody's suggested a Sebenza yet.;)

But seriously, the Junglas will knock yer socks off!

I was just out using my Junglas while I was teaching my nephew how to spot deer sign in the woods. I would definitely get that if you will be chopping. Great for the size
