The age old question " " or " " ?? We see these posts all the time..

Well I never thought I'd do this, but I'm looking for all you junkies opinion to help sway my decision on which to buy (first). I can only afford one at the moment besides my wife may use one on me in my sleep if I bought both:p

First off I could use the Junglas more as I live in an undisclosed bunker and the trees/paths need trimmed.

The HEST is really tempting as I find myself carrying mostly fixed knives anymore, it appears the HEST isn't civilian friendly and doesn't come with a belt clip.. Otherwise this wouldn't be a thread..

Why is it this urban survival tool isn't equipped from the factory to be sheeple friendly?? Seems to me there should be an option on accessories instead of spending even more money on after market parts..

With that said, the Junglas would see immediate abuse, the HEST not so much unless I found a way to belt carry..

Any Ideas??

Rob

you said it yourself you would get immediate use out of the jungalas.

From what i have read people use the molle locks to attach the HEST to a belt. A Tek-Lok should also fit on the HEST sheath. I just ordered a HEST for myself so i'm going to suggest that one.

paracord is a great way to loop it to your belt. i use it for my esee-3. the esee 3 boot clip may work on the hest sheath, and then you could pocket carry or iwb it. but the junglas is awesome. haven't gotten to try the hest yet.

Really? You think the HEST is not Civilian friendly (3" cutting edge), but the Junglas (10" cutting edge) is? Really? :)
I'd be getting looked at sideways at work if I walked into a Junglas lashed to my leg. A HEST is awesome, though. I carry an Izula very ofen in my back pocket and no one has given me grief yet.

The ESEE 3 boot clip does work on the HEST although the holes aren't perfect.

Though it sounds to me as if you've decided on the Junglas.....

The ideal solution would be to get both :D

you could swing the price of the lite machete and the hest, with a 7$ boot clip thrown in, for about the price of the junglas. then you have your sheeple blade and your bunker maintenance tool.

naa, its gotta have heft.. I have machetes, I want something to go THUD when I whack it..

Red you know I wouldn't be sporting this monster as an EDC.. I have the EDC thing covered although the HEST is simply wicked and it would take over in that department (IF) it came user friendly.. Not complaining just wish there were more options for carry with manufacturers, others offer leather belt sheaths but no Kydex..?? come-on..... all I want is a proper belt clip..

I get it. I wasn't sure I understood your question initally now I know I did not. Sorry. There are some really nice Kydex sheath makers on here, they do wonders with the stuff. That is why I carry the Izula, the sheath is perfect for the back pocket. It looks like a comb. :D
I am getting the H.E.S.T. next though. It's got to be one of the best 3" fixed blades to date.

This does not compute. The DPx H•E•S•T is a legal carry, easily concealable, at hand tool. The Junglas is a strapping work horse that can put together a shelter, bed frame or roaring fire without working up a sweat.

The answer as always is you need both, a close in working tool and a Crocodile Dundee toothpick. I would love to have packed a Junglas for a few bar discussions but I would have to wear 36 inch high boots to conceal it in.

it comes with molle clips, i carry it on my belt everyday with them. i've used the paracord too very versatile.

this isn't really a dead horse, usually the two or three options have similar uses... ,

hey daze, what part of oklahoma are you in?(i think you said you were in this great state)... the lite machete is suprising. great edge, super comfy handle. then, a tram could do everything you need... hell, if you mod it right, you could have a nice chopper and a smaller blade for finer tasks.

just outside of Tulsa.. Sapulpa.. been here for almost 5yrs now, native SoCal, couldn't stand it anymore and had to escape.. now I'm in a bunker:D and loving it..

Yes I know I will eventually get both, but I'm selling a knife to purchase this one so I can justify it.. maybe I'll have to sell two knives or a really good one to even it out.. and buy both:D

still teetering though

Well...I won't tell you what to buy...I have two HESTS and really want a Junglas....but....

Factory HEST sheath, factory ESEE-3 boot clip, belt carried about 12 hours a day on a regular basis. What's so unfriendly about that?

well if you're ever down mcalester way i could let you try out the junglas and the lite... don't have the hest yet. i used to carry my izula with a clip off a tape measure' sure you could put one on the hest sheath, but that 3 clip is nice. have one on my izula now, and one on a 3 sheath.

IMO, the HEST fills a niche no other knife does. I'd start with that and pick up a 20 dollar Condor machete for beating on.

The belt clip works great, it's on my side as I type...was on my side at the park today with my daughter, later at McDonalds for ice cream. I'm extremely happy with it. I have one on my 3MIL, one on the HEST, need to get one for the RC-4S as I already know it works on it too, and now from what you say I need to get one for the Izula also. Does it go right on the Izula, or do you have to wallow the holes a little like I did on this HEST sheath?

goes right in the two holes on the bite side of the sheath. perfect fit. i carried it lefthanded for about a week, but its back to righthanded again, now that the tenderness is pretty much gone from my pinky.

The Junglas would see immediate use (abuse) & you have the EDC covered so I think that could give you some direction.

This thread is actually a bit different...most of them ask about knives that are more similar in size, HEST vs 3, 5 vs 6 etc.

Though since it isn't really a question of the fine points of function...it's really about what kind of knife you WANT right now; a small one or a big one.

Others have mentioned ways of belt carrying the HEST, so I'll just mention that it's small enough that pocket carry is a possibility, depending on your clothing. I've carried my 3 like that several times in preference to IWB with the clip, or on the belt with paracord.
