Once again, im going in the Canadian wilderness to spend 2 nights below zero celcius in a survival trip.. and the junglas is always following me. Sometimes, i would appreciate some kind of easy, fast and reliable quick release option for when i sit near the fire and need to remove the junglas for a few minutes.

I have a firm rule about knives in the wild that it must never leave my side.. and i sleep with the ESEE6 on my belt every night (in the wild).

but..

Can you suggest me something, point me in the right direction, something different than passing the strap from the molle back in my belt and unsnap the 1 button to unhook ? I got medium size tek lok.. too big for izula for my taste, too small for the junglas sheath. Junglas sized tek lok available somewhere ? other suggestions ?

Thank you for your time and answers

IMHO, anything that can "quick release" will quick release itself at some time or another - this is why the military covers their reserve chute ripcord while exiting the aircraft during airborne operations, why you don't pre-straighten your pins on grenades, etc.

You could probably use a ALICE pack quick release strap mechanism if you want to get real fancy, but likely, all you need some sort of harness with snaps or fastex fasteners.

dont run your belt thru your pant loops :D

I found that pretty usefull to bypass the pant loops so i can push the junglas further back on the belt.. but the weight of the junglas is dragging my pants down and i don't wanna run into a black bear with my pants down..

- I tried a second belt once and it work ok. at least my pant wouldn't be affected by the weight
- I agree with the fast release = could release at the wrong time.. and that is why i suggested a fast and reliable quick release in the op.

I got carry technique that work ok, was wondering if there was a perfect solution.

The Junglas is probably too long either for a 6'2" guy like me, to molle strap it to the front of a vest and free the hips/belt. The problem really came from the "sitting around camp" factor with a junglas on the belt..

I would say baldric or dangler type setup. Its what I use for my BK9 and it works pretty well for sittin'. The baldric can balanced out with a belt clip, so you get the feel of hip wear, but when you need to sit, you can unclip it and let baldric swing. I also made a dangler with HD qwik release buckle. I have to strap it down to my leg, but when you sit, it allows some flex at the buckle. I hope this helps, and good luck, that's some mighty cold weather.

You could try adding a belt extender to drop it down from your belt some & a leg strap to it or you could strap it to a drop down leg platform. With both of these ways it will stay with your leg as you move and sit. It is how I usually carry mine and I find it very functional.

I do a Baldric on my Ka-bar khuk, works quite well, and gives you a large target to grab if you have to pick up the knife quickly. then I carry a folder or izula as my "always on" knife.

So you sleep with your knife attached to your body but you can't sit down with it? Dude, if I slept with my knife I would end up jabbing myself all night. Do you sleep with your boots on? If you have to leave your shelter with as cold as you say it is you won't get to far without something on your feet.

I say your best bet is a duty belt with all the usual items you pack that you can take on and off to get comfortable. Especially in a survival or evasion situation you will need decent sleep and rest.

I have done my fair share of camping in the winter in AK, is it hard to get sleep with a hunk of metal strapped to your side?

add an S-Biner large to the Junglas & a leg strap with buckles, all you gotta do is unclip S-biner and unbuckle leg strap

exactly.. standing up and laying on the ground is the same thing.. regarding the position of the knife on your side.. the handle point to your head in both situation, and the tip of the of the sheath point to your feet, standing or on the ground. You can also try it yourself and stand on your head, the same rules apply.

I never had that problem.. maybe you should get the knife in the sheath first, and if I need to gtf out asap of my camp for whatever reason, or defend myself, I may dont have the liberty to look around in the dark for a knife.

In survival situation.. all the time.. i dont carry an extra pair of comfy shoes to sleep in the wild. plus the "conserve-maximum-body-heat" factor.. yes i admit it, i sleep with my boots on.

is it hard to get sleep with a hunk of metal strapped to your side?

Not hard at all.. the trick is not having the knife touching your skin.. i never strap a knife under my pants.. its on the outside.. also it help that i don't roll all over the place while sleeping.

I should add that the title of the thread is related to the junglas.. sitting with a ESEE6 isn't a problem.. sitting with a junglas on the belt often point in the ground.

I am just curious about ways to carry the junglas in a useful way.. and not really interested in justifying/defending my survival technique.

The baldric or dundee carry is recommended then - I've seen several people use it as a pack knife, too.

You could try come heavy-duty clips like large tek-lok or something, if you really want to wear it as a belt knife.

you could wear it across the small of your back or verticaly on your pack strap? I have my Junglas through the top slit on my sabercat versipackm never gets in the way even when sitting.

I have check the dundee option following your recommandation.. and you suggest to carry the 6 and molle strap the junglas to the pack.. simple solution that work for me, thats for sure :)

Have you every seen an online store with tek-loks big enough for the junglas ?

have a kydex bender make you a belt clip that can attach to the Junglas sheath with 4 screws like the clip plate for the 6?
otherwise, I carry mine with a 2" nylon strap baldric. (which also gives me 5-6 feet of nylon webbing in a pinch)
