Hey All,
A few weeks ago Steely posted the mods he made to his Pen knife. I loved it and said it was dangerous to get me thinking!! Well thinking I did, and decided to make my Jungle knife more mine. The jungle knife reminds me of the J.E.S.T Jungle survival tool. First thing I decided to do was to make the handle shorter, it was about 7 1/2 inches long and was about 2 1/2 inches longer than my grip.

I angle cut it and rounded the edges some, and left about a 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 at the back. Then roughed it up and did the Fiber Fix wrap on it, boy let me tell you that when Steely said it grips he wasn't kidding, this aint going anywhere!!!! After the wrap dried I used some black matte paint to finish the handle.

After the handle was done, I went to work on the blade, like Steely, I used 220 sandpaper on it to give a satin finish and then used some bluing paste, I probably did five or six coats of the bluing with a light buff of O4 steel wool in between. After bluing I did a final buff with the steel wool and used some windex on the blade to stop the bluing process, then some oil and called it done. I really love how it came out, now I need to decide what kind of sheath to make for it.

That thing is bad to the bone Pugs!!! Looks very Japanese now to me. LOVE IT! Can't wait to see what kind of sheath you come up with.

Can't be too many pictures especially for us reading challenged folks especially them really big words. We must be a bit telepathic or something, I did the bluing thing to one of my spare little bowies. Kind of a stealth dark of night thing.
Have to see if I have a picture someplace.

I looked for that Fiber Fix stuff at Lowes the other day, couldn't remember the name at the time and didn't find it, I'll have to look again I reckon.

Thanks fellas, It definitely took on a more sinister look when finished. still not sure on the leather but will figure it out.

Pugs since it’s titled “Jungle Knife” you need to make a modified “Tarzan” style sheath. When you take the photo with sheath design you may as well go all out and take a photo wearing it with the Jungle loincloth!:D
Tarzan was the originator of the term
“Bawanna JuJu”!
Now I’m giving away my age!

Rollercoaster! Photo of that handlecut, I was NOOOOOOOO!
Then blued and glued with the fiberfix, I was YEESSSSSSS!

Me too brother, me too!! It literally took me days to actually muster up the courage to actually do it. Once I started cutting it was all good!

Takes a lot of pondering before you break out the hack saw, can be traumatic.
I've bob tailed a couple 1911's, taking that first stroke with the hack saw is real scary.

You know, my local Lowes is hit and miss with Fiber Fix. Its actually where I found it first, in one of those cardboard displays in the middle of an aisle. Then it was tough to find except for randomly hanging off shelf pegs.

Home Depot actually has it in an area that makes sense. Right in the aisle the tape, glue, and sandpaper.

It should be in a little 3x2 box depending on the size. Should run between 8 and 10 bucks for the kit.

Sinister! Thats the word! Very much so. Cant wait for the final package!

Ha! I used to build police cars and ambulances for the DOD and about the first thing you do is drop the headliner then climb up on top of the brand spankin new vehicle with you socks on and a protective mat and drill a big arse hole in the middle of the roof for the antennae. That was the weirdest feeling. Measure ten times and drill once comes to mind! I never messed up but was always a possibility.

Pugs,
That knife was beautiful before you started sawing. The final result is nothing short of awesome.
Funny that you mention J.E.S.T.. I've still got a knife I bought from the instructors and have used as a handy little tool for decades. How about those fruit bats?
Semper Fi

Thanks again fellas, darn thing has been next to me on the couch since I finished it, the wife just laughs, she prolly jealous!!

Pagan, alas I never had the opportunity to attend the J.E.S.T school, but would have in a heartbeat. Have been a fan of there style blades they use. For you to have one of there blades and especially from one of the instructors is very cool.
