I know the design is next to useless for most things, but the Junglee Baby Hattori is calling to me. Does anyone own one of these? Either the Baby or the Standard.

I would also like to know, I saw them years ago and wanted one then. I was recently looking at one but havn't heard any feedback on them. They are beautiful knives, very traditional tactical so to speak.

Eh. Couldn't wait for feedback. Went ahead and ordered one.

BJE, I'll let you know what I think when it gets here. Should be here Wednesday.

the serrations on their junglee special force are crap....this junglee knife i bought in 2005 was dull and maybe impossible to sharpen with my sharpening skill....but i can sharpen my others knives made with aus-8...my 2 cents :)

The Hattori is listed as "Made in Taiwan" and 440C.

The Special Forces is made in Japan, so I would think the quality would be pretty good. Just goes to show, country of origin is meaning less and less as far as quality goes.

Got it.

The Good - Very cool looking. Edge, while not being hair popping sharp, could shave a little. Very comfortable handle. Decent leather sheath.

The Bad - Overall F&F is very good, but the spacers aren't flush with the Kraton or wood. They stick out just a bit. The top serrations are dead dull, and wouldn't even scratch paracord.

The Undecided - Didn't do any testing, so I don't know how the steel is. It's 440C, so if the HT is good, it should do fine. The thickness tapers to a very thin tip. This could be good or bad, depending on your preference. The top plain edge is false. I prefer this, but it's hard to tell from the pic.

Overall - This is a very cool looking knife. The handle issue isn't really noticeable in hand, and doesn't bother me. The serrations can be sharpened. Overall, I really like this knife. It's not going to stand up to digging or hard prying because of the taper, but for normal knife tasks it should be fine. If I were going into a hardcore survival situation, I'd probably grab something else, but man does it look cool.

I'll post pics Tomorrow.

One more note. I thought this was pretty funny.

The warranty paper included had this statement.

JUNGLEE knives are not made with the intention of harming humans. If you have purchased this knife with such an intent, please return it to your dealer for a full refund.

:D

I've been carrying it all day, and the more I hold it, the more I like it. The balance is directly behind the guard, and feels very light in the hand. I'll use it a bit this weekend, and then do a review in the Reviews section.

still, have only heard neautral or good about the junglee. :)

ps- it is so sharp i accidentally sliced the inside of my leather sheath!:grumpy:

I know. I couldn't really find anything good or bad about Junglee before buying it, so I just took a shot.

This one is. Some are made in Japan. Not sure if they have any made elsewhere.

I can only seem to find kitchen knives when hunting for Hattori. Do you have a link?

I really like this one. I'll have to give it some use to see how it holds up, but I love the design.

This one will shave, and will easily kill the sheath if not inserted very carefully (It's very pointy). It came with a better edge than most production knives. It's just not hair flinging.

It will be getting kydex pants this weekend.

Here is another Hattori link as well.

This site has a number of Japanese makers on it as well.

The Junglees are cashing in on the Hattori name same as other companies us famous maker names to promote their products. I am not saying the Junglee is a bad product but I dislike any company that uses famous makers names to promote their own products.

Junglee gives credit to Hattori in the description of the knife, so I'd say that they are using it with permission, and Hattori is getting royalties.

I actually prefer the Junglee style to the original. The contrasting handle materials look very cool to me. Also, normally I wouldn't like serrations anywhere on a knife, but since this knife is not a pryer anyway, having them on the spine could be handy.

One more thing I noticed Today for the bad column. The Kraton portion of the handle slides up and down a bit when using it for snap cuts. The only thing holding it on is the lanyard tube. I may have to remove it, and epoxy it in place at some point.

A little off topic but does anyone know where the Junglee Short Sword is made? Also anyone have a good pic? Can't find a close-up pic on the net.
