Junglee Knives - Newbie Question!

Hi! I'm a newbie when it comes to knives and to this forum. I am a gun owner who is looking to complete an ensemble with a good quality folding knife. I have been looking at Cold Steel and CRKT knives a lot (on the web) when I ran across a Junglee Babylon. I am very much interested in the knife as it has an unusual blade. CRST once made a folder with such a blade but it is now out of production (though they produce a K.I.S.S. knife with it).

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with or knows anything about Junglee Knives. The knife retails for about $60.00 but is selling for $32.00 at the web site. I can not seem to find the same knife anywhere else even on the Junglee and Gutmann web sites. The knife appears to be out of production. If I am going to get it I guess I should act soon so I need help.

If any of you can help me decide if the Junglee Babylon is worth the money (I was looking at CRKT knives that retail for about the same price but sell for around $40.00 to $50.00) I would be most grateful.

:D

The CRKT knife you are thinking of is/was called the Mirage Wharncliff.
You can still find them.
They came in two sizes.
If you can get hold of a model called the Mirage Grey Ghost Wharncliff you will have a very nice knife with a blade of good steel.
The Grey Ghost series used a better steel than the ordinary Mirage knives(and Junglee).
A search through Google should turn up a few.
You should be able to buy them at a very good price.
Happy hunting.

I don't know anything about the Babylon, but I do own a couple of Junglee knives. Not even close to my favorite brand, but all in all, not a bad product. Some of their fixed blades are actually very well-made. The Junglee's I own are two folders, a Z knife and a linerlock knife I can't remember the name off the top of my head (was it Shenzi?). They are fair quality.

In that price range I'd also check out Outdoor Edge, more of the CRKT's, and also some of the Spydercos and Benchmades that retail below the $100 mark (such as the Griptilian). There's actually a lot of excellent choices in that range. An excellent idea if possible would be to attend a gun show that has knife dealers present, and examine/handle as many different knives personally as you can. You may end up finding a good one that costs more than the $32 but that extra money could be well worth it.

I had Junglee Babylon.

First knife I bought using Internet.

To be honest, it was junk! :( :(

The only good thing I can say about it is I got rid of it - and got even some money.

Loose clip, blade play, uncomfortable handle...
... and so on.

If you really, really want it, go ahead and buy. It can be used as a letter opener - with certain limitations.

But - IMHO - it's waste of money.

Thanks guys for all of your help. I found just what I wanted on ebay. A CRKT Mirage with a Wharncliff(e) plain blade. Kinfe, shipping and insurance comes to $24.00. It's a price I can live with.

Congratulations! :)

I think you made good purchase.

I own a couple of CRKT's, but not Mirage.
(In fact I've never even handeled one. )

But anyway (and what I've heard) it's much better deal than Babylon :barf:

I don't know much about Junglee knives, but CRKT makes some fine knives.
I own several CRKT knives and have been happy with all of them (except the extremely rough/sharp edges on my M16's thumbstuds).

I hope you like the Mirage.
Write us a review on the review forum and tell us about it.

Good luck,
Allen.

AllenC:

IF your M-16 is one with a 'Carson Flipper' then take sand paper and smooth out those studs. All they really do is stop the blade in the open position.

And to Gunslinger:

I think you will find those thumb studs slightly annoying. I have the smaller version and that is all I can find wrong with it. Overall I LIKE CRKT stuff, 'cause it's CHEAP!!!!
