Junglee Sahara Jr. vs Cold Steel Voyager

Had a junglee a few years back, it was an incredible knife (especially for the price). AUS8 steel, heavy duty dual tangs (one linerlock tang, one tang on the other side) in the handle. Very secure lock, only gripe is that the blade would easily loosen up over time and use and that nice sharp chisle edge soon becomes a regular double bevel with extended use and sharpening. But it will hold an edge excellently.

Now, the Cold Steel used to be AUS8 but now is some VG-10, which is supposedly close. From what I can tell there is no metal tang running down the handle, though their lock stregth has a reputation that can't be beat.

But for half the price, the Junglee has everything but the light weight.

Has anybody used/owned both these knives and can do a comparision? Haven't been able to find much in the way of reviews for the Junglee Sahara Jr, so I can't really compare it to the Cold Steel (which I have never used)...

Cold Steel is using VG-1, not VG-10.

From what I've been reading, they label it VG-1 but its basically VG-10. Although this VG steel is new to me, so I may very well be confused on it.

Regardless, any advice on my query?

It's the manufacturer's website.

They make VG1, 2, 3...etc. - - up to VG10.

Also, there were some threads on this during the past month or so.

Meantime, I have a few Junglee knives and I think they're terrific
value for the money.

I don't have the Sahara model you mentioned, but the blades I have
from Junglee are all either AUS 8 or AUS 10, and they're nicely made too.
All made in Seki, Japan.

Perhaps this is some help to you; hope so.

I guess I'm just curious to try something new (eg: not the junglee), but hesitant to get into a situation like I did with the gerber paraframe (shitty knife, shitty blade, shitty lock. Actually the lock completely failed; locking arm broke off), and I know what I'm getting with the Sahara Jr. (at least if they are as good as when I bought my last one).

BTW, good site for the steel!

I am unfamiliar with the Sahara Jr...however from your description it sounds like a great little folder. There is much to be said for swimming against the current and choosing something "a little different".
If you wanted to follow the crowd there is always the Benchmade griptilain and the Spyderco route ( any number of choices )....if I wasn't so wedded to my Cabelas D2 Grip with Olive handles for my EDC I would closely look at the Spyderco D'Allara; like all Spydercos it offers terrific value for your dollar. The Endura, Delica, and Native also are also sound choices for EDC. My experience with Cold Steel Voyagers has been positive, however they are a bit mundane and are slightly below Benchmade/Spyderco quality in my not so very important opinion. Also, I find the persona of the owner of the Cold Steel line and his marketing strategy somewhat objectionable, yet there is no denying he is an astute businessman and sells many useful products.

Junglee is one of those weird companies that relabel chinese stuff, no? (I sell their binoculars and NVGs)
Just get a Spyderco and make life easy, instead of worrying about Cold Steel

Can't say as I've seen or heard anything good about Gerber since I started looking at good knives six or seven months ago.
