What did I buy? All the blades fully open except the wharnie. The blade tang looks like it says Japan. For a few bucks it was interesting enough to follow me home.

I believe these were made when Japan was occupied by the US after WW2.
I also remember these were really popular with my friends who were in the scouts. Everything you would ever need for a few bucks. :D

Nice find

I would of bought it for a few bucks. sharpen the blades and oil the pins then you have a very nice camping knife

That thing's a walking arsenal.... of eating implements. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

being a scout, That is a pretty awesome tool... I use to have a similar one

excellent find...... wanna find me one??? haha kidding

There's one of these at a booth at my local swap meet; I just picked up a Kabar scout knife from the proprietor. His is in much rustier condition though. Let us know how it works out when it's cleaned up!

Thanks for the info and feedback everyone. I'm going to clean and oil it this weekend. It's in relatively good shape without signs of heavy use or abuse.

I had one back when I was about 10 years old and lived outside camping and fishing when I had free time. I was so proud of it, and used it for everything around the camp. I used to make a mean corned beef and wild onions sandwich dinner. :)

Sad, sad day when I found it was gone. No idea what happened to it. I think it was stolen by one of my older brothers friends as I was way too careful with it.

This would have been 71-72 or thereabouts. I never have been in the position to replace it. I will if I am ever in the room with one for sale just to have if nothing else. I would use it though after cleaning it up and spending lots of getting to know it time. :) I still get good feelings just looking at the pictures. Thanks for bringing up good memories!

Sorry to hear about your knife Joe. When I was moving one time, and I had the neighbor over a night or two before I left, and the guy stole my SAK One Hand Trekker. I didn't do anything to him, but I do remember he sort of kicked the wall/banister where I had it sitting, and his foot drew my attention. I'm pretty sure that's when he pocketed it. I'm just glad it wasn't a GEC or a custom that he got away with. I just ordered the same (plane edge) for around $35 and I was back on track.

I figured that it was a revelent story considering how camp knives have changed. I would be proud to carry the camp knife posted in this thread though.

This knife seems to spark good mememories for a lot of folks. I truely enjoy reading the stories posted. The one that is nostalgic for me would be a white scaled Boy Scout knife from the 1980's. Camillus I think was the maker. Similar story to the one above a so called "friend" likely pocketed it as we parted ways as roommates. Being a believer in karma lets just say he got his.
Every time I see one of those scout knives I want one. I've missed a few or they just went too high for my budget.

This one is still soaking in mineral oil and waiting for proper cleanup. I'm hoping to get to it this week. It's much more labor intensive to clean than the two or three bladed oldies I usually find.
