I have the Junk yard Dog partcially serrated and I was thinking that it does not get enough press on here. It too is a good knife at a good price. Good handle length, light, good looking and functional.

I thought the Needs Work would be my hiking/camping knife but this knife is better.

It was not very well sharpened out of the box and I botched the job trying to get it sharper - scratched the satin finish. The factory didn't take enough metal off near the serrations -it was impossible to sharpen.

What I like about the serrations is that they can be sharpened with the Sharpmaker or the corners of a sharpening stone.

I will just need to get another one. But don't forget the original.

Dexter, I actually liked the JYD better than the JYD2 also. I agree that it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Most of the work my knives get is mundane household cutting; plastic food bags, dog food bags, cutting straws for my son, cutting up food, occasional tree pruning, etc...That's why I prefer the Leek and smaller knives--I just don't need a huge blade.

I'm a big guy, but I prefer smaller knives because they ride in my dress pants pockets much better. When I wear jeans, I can carry my Spec Bump or Lg Cyclone, but I am so in love with my Damascus Leek that it rarely leaves my pocket. The Tyrade will probably make me wear jeans more often!

Contact Kershaw about resharpening your knife.

I recently picked up a JYD also, already had the JYDII. I usually prefer a large blade, But I really like the JYD, it feels like a larger blade,is easier to carry, and the flipper is just as smooth as its big brothers.

You can go wrong with either of these ! But you got to have both !! lol

Glad to hear you love the JYD. From what I've read and heard, I think that will be my next Kershaw. I also like the smaller ( around 3 inch ) bladed knives.
