Alright kershaholics, I've got a quick question. I'm looking into getting a junkyard dog and i've taken a liking to the composite blade grey g10 model. I've found a blem for a reasonable price but in the description it says "Steel: Sandvik 14C28N composite two-tone stainless steel with copper accent". I thought all the composite models were 14c28n/D2 composite. Is it a misprint or is it really just 14c28n throughout? the model number of the knife is 1725CB and i believe it's a junkyard dog II.

thanks!

Its D2 steel on the blade like the composite leek.

Also don't forget the SG2 Version those are amazing

I came upon a SG2 Ti JYD for a little more than a new composite JYD on an auction site, just got to keep your eyes open for one. I would love to get another too. The shape fits my hand very well, the SG2 is a deep hollow grind which helps its slicing ability.

That is good to know. A ti framelock JYD is basically my grail knife right now, even if it only costs a little more than a new composite JYD. I am just so smitten by the ti JYDs.

NO I think you got me wrong, I got a great deal on mine (they listed it wrong and maybe didn't know the real value), they go for more than double (maybe triple) the price of a composite JYD. But it is well worth it. Its close to a Tim Gaylean's custom, the designer. It might be a better steel than his customs.

The SG2 Blur and JYD Ti use a different process than the regular composite blades. Me and Tony were debating the san mai process in the Kershaws most exotic steels thread, if you are interested in the SG2 JYD it might be worth a read.

Yeah, what you had said earlier didn't quite stack up to the research I had done. Thanks for the suggestion about the exotic steel thread, I will make sure to check it out.

I wanted to get a JYD and was looking around and settling for a D2 composite version but found the SG2 Ti and knew I had to jump at it. They are pretty rare, you can find some blem's around too.

Anyways my main point was to mention that the pattern of the knife frame fits my hand really well, like top 3. So even if you can't find the grail, it's worth getting any variation you can find.

What made me want a ti version was my gray composite JYD. After that I just knew I had to find a ti version.
