Well the paycheck's coming in and you know how it goes.

I was checking out the Kershaw Junkyard dog 1. I like the plain look of it, just metal.

A couple of questions:

1. Is it an A/O?

Not really a problem but I would like to use it at work in front of people.

2. Are the Air Force markings on it a tribute? Was the designer in the Armed Forces? Or is it supposed to look like the body of an aircraft?

3. What is a junkyard dog? (just curious)

4. Anyone want to convince me to buy one? :D

1. No
2. No, designed by Tim Galyean (sp?)
3. Dog designed to scare people from stealing at junkyards
4. Buy a JYD2, it flips better due to a heavier blade and has better ergos. I have a Ti Sg2 JYD2, it's sweet. I recommend either a Ti Sg2 or CB, they are a lot better than the standard and have much better edge retention.

5. Ti Sg2 has framelock, CB has liner lock, all the others are frame locks, I think.

I'm picking up a JYD II with composite blade next week...you should do the same!
D2 steel is good stuff...and I love the look of the fused steels.

If you're looking for AO, Kershaw has plenty of others to offer. I myself own the Blur and am very pleased. Quick, dependable opening, solid lock-up. Also have an Orange Tyrade coming in the mail, so stoked to hold it!
If you go to the Kershaw website, I believe pretty much all of the Ken Onion designed knives are AO, and there are a loooooot of them...have fun choosing!

Thanks for the replies guys, but i'm a little confused by the acronyms

what is CB?

also, i thought the titanium was a sprint run. am i mistaken? I may be thinking of the tyrades.

I'd rather not have A/O but i did look at the scallion/leek/shallot/chive family

The Ti Sg2 was a sprint run, but you can still find them around on the exchange and some places may still have them in stock.
They run about $140 for the Ti Sg2, and about $80 for the CB (composite blade) models.

I don't own one, but I've held one.

It's not an AO, but the flipper works in such a way that it might as well be.
