So yah.. was breaking my new 0560 in.. and ended up breaking myself.. I dropped the knife from my right hand, and in a split second tried to catch it with my left hand.. didn't go so well for my left hand. It not only cut my thumb, but actually happened to cut a small divot outta my nail too.. lol
Took about 3 - 4 hours to get the bleeding to stop. This is the wound cleaned before the second dressing.. nice huh?

Love the knife though. Thankfully I messed up my left hand, so I'm still good to flip with my right.. hahah

good little chunk you took out there 13. glad you are ok and still able to flip! :D

That's a pretty nasty cut, but at least you didn't sever a tendon. I've stopped myself from catching a knife mid reach a few times, but the natural inclination is to try and catch it. Glad you're relatively OK.

Looks about the same as what I did to the tip of my thumb with an 0551 somehow. All I have to say is don't worry about it.. those things are so sharp that it makes a nice clean cut and it will heal up quickly! I took a slightly larger chunk than that out and it actually hurt less than a small ragged paper cut. It bled like crazy though! The biggest injury was to my pride as I felt like an idiot for cutting myself. The worst part of it was that with the 0551 not having a flipper (this was back in December before the 0560) and I couldn't open with the thumb studs and carried a Benchmade AFO II for a week.

Heal up fast and enjoy that knife!

I got news for you, CPM S35VN is on the 0550 is pretty darned sharp too. I push cut myself twice in the first few days of owning it with VERY little pressure. (I was concetrating on something else when I should have been concentrating on closing/holding the knife). I hear that once you get cut by a knife, you can never get rid of it.

Elmax is good, and trying to catch knives that are falling when they are open is bad. Oh yeah, thumbs are bad too. for thumbs.

Best bandaid is 3 steps.

1) A shot of whiskey for you

2) A shot of whiskey for your cut

3) A shot of whiskey as offering to the knife to not cut you again.

Also, now that knife owns you, you are not allowed to ever get rid of it (I have a few knives that I can never get rid of). :P

Ouch.....not good. But, at least now you can say that the 0560 is definitely YOUR knife. :encouragement:

Crap! That wound could have used a graft as it will take a long time to heal with that much tissue gone. No flap to suture so you will have one hell of a scar. At least it's the back side of your finger so it shouldn't cause any permanent impairment. You might want to apply vitamin E to it after a few days when it's scabbed over as that will reduce scarring.

I sliced the top of my left index finger off with a composite blade Leek. I was opening a shipping envelope and wasn't paying attention where my finger was on the other side of the envelope. Sliced the envelope open and realized my mistake. Blood...swearing.....the normal stuff. The part I cut off was stuck to the side of the blade. It hurt very much badly so I sympathize. I still have that knife and always will.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.. lol. The knife definitely is mine. I didn't even wipe the blood off yet. Shit, between the cut on my left thumb, and the blister on my right from the sticky lockbar, id say this knife is out to get my thumbs!! Hahah..

Yeah being a chef I drop and try to catch knives all the time... You think after 15 yrs id learn... But nope still try to grab it. I have had to get 15 stitches once when trying to catch a butcher knife and slicing my wrist open..fun fun

That's funny. Same situation happened to me. I had just gotten my new scale from Peter R and put it on the knife. I went to go show it off to my wife and dropped it, my other hand immediately swept in to catch it without thinking "Hey! That's really sharp!" Well, it went straight down into my pinky finger. Split me open real good. I knew better than to catch it, but all I was seeing was dollar signs at the time.
