Just a bad day for slipjoints and me

School got out 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago I shipped off most of my knives back to my house for use over the next 5 weeks. Some needed a few repairs that I was gonna send off, 1 was a present, and the rest were for fun. 2 weeks later I've gotten nothing. Tracking shows nothing. What is gone...8OT, 34OT, 152OT, 3 1/4 70's Case, 1989 Case Copperhead, 70's SAB jackknife, Schrade Walden 881, and a DC4 sharpener. Then to make it a little worse, IMO, I got a package. It was a knife I bought off ebay, an old 70's 8OT. Pics nor description say anything is wrong with the knife. I get it and its just destroyed. All lazy springs, gigantic gaps. Nothing I know how to fix. Just annoyed right now. I hope USPS somehow finds the package.

Man! That's terrible! I sincerely hope you get your package. Were any of the knives sentimental?

Good thoughts coming your way...

I am sorry for your loss. I am probably not reading your post right. Did you fly home for Christmas break, and decide to ship your knives home prior? If so, I would have packed them up in a box, put them in my suitcase and checked my bag and flew back with my knives in the belly of the plane. I fly a few times a year for business, and I do not take my higher end knives, but I do take at least 2 slipjoints, my griptilian and my Leatherman Charge. I never have had any issue. I hope you can locate your package.

1 knife was sentimental, I won it last year from Todd A in his christmas giveaway. And cj, I shipped them home prior to flying. Just didn't wanna deal with any hassle that might have come up. Seemed like a better idea now...

Don't despair yet, you may have recourse.

How did you ship them and did you have any insurance?

Go to the post office or UPS or whatever agency you used, and make a complaint. Sometimes when a pot is stirred, something comes up from the bottom.

Also its holiday season, shippers are swamped. The package may come through yet.

Good luck.

Oof. There are some real sharks on the 'bay and they'll love to sell you nothin' for somethin'. I got an Imperial EZ Open in ebony that was just awful once. Not sure how they took pictures that made it look so good online. Blade channels packed with sawdust and tar, scales warped, etc. With alot of love and patience I restored that one back to a condition worthy for show and tell. Its one of my favorites now.
I hope you can fix up that beater. :)

crbauhs ------send me a pm with your name and address, and I'll drop a couple of knives in the mail to you. They won't be magnificent hand made pieces of art but they will get you by. It will be after Christmas. Let me know.

:( dude...that's terrible. I hate putting knives in the mail.:grumpy:

Ah man, talk about a total bummer for Christmas -- *and* you lost a DC4 hone (for those who don't know, that's the Fallkniven DC4 combination fine diamond/fine ceramic hone in a thick leather slipcase -- totally handy - set the edge on the diamond, refine it on the ceramic, strop it on the slipcase - done).

Wow thats rough..:(

Two weeks is a long time, hopefully it stills shows up somehow.

Well another day and no package, so I've basically given up. USPS might surprise me but I doubt it. Now I'm worried about shipping back the ones I get for Christmas.

I'll add to the xmas mix with my friend XBXB and see if we can't get you perked up with the Christmas spirit.... But you better hurry cause Christmas will soon be here.. send your name and address to me along with xbxb via pm.

Hey I just wanna make sure you all know I didn't post this to get free knives or what not. I really appreciate your offers and all the well wishes. I'll send you a PM sunnyd. Thanks alot you guys. I owe you big time.

I retired from the post office after working there for over 31 years. I have seen it all. People cuss the po, but in my opinion, they do a magnificent job; the percentage of success is amazing. However.... DO NOT SHIP ANYTHING THE LAST TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS. EVER!!! I cannot stress this enough. Consider this a rule set in stone. Meanwhile, do not give up yet. Your package may miraculously appear a week or more into the future. Good luck!

This is meant to give you hope. I ordered 6 throwing hawks from Steve Liley at Coal creek forge, he made them in a week and mailed them, 2 months later I finally got them, no explanation no apology from the post office. Hope it works out for you, the loss of even a single knife is a terrible experience.

Best regards

Robin
