hello, my name is David, and I am from s.e. Ohio. I have just recently started making knives. I have been using some wood that my grandfather had and from what I can tell it is Dymondwood. I have looked it up and found it, but not that much, and what i can find seems to be cut into pen blanks. Any suggestions on a good place to buy it?

Thanks>

Welcome aboard. First there's nothing wrong with dymond wood and I even like some of the solid colors, it's stabile, tough and looks pretty good and will kill a knife sale quiker than you can say "Pakastani" If you have it and are just starting out it'll give you good practice on working a stabilized material and it does make a good handle.

Just about all the knife supply places cary it, Sheffields has a very large selection of it and it's priced rite, but plan on moving on to somthing differant pretty quik, it's not a very popular material.

I appriciate the advise everyone.
My Dad builds custom muzzelloaders from scratch, well everything but the barrel anyway. He has had quite a few published in Muzzleblast Magazine, so I have access to alot of nice tools. Recently I had an accident that has confined me tho the house, so I decieded that was time to start learning a new craft.
So what is everyones favorite handle material to work with? I have access to a lot of different natural woods, but he had some old diamond wood and micarta blanks laying around, along with some full tang blades.
Thanks again for your input. Can't wait to post my first one!

welcome! canvas or linen micarta are probably two of the most popular handle materials being used right now. because of the layered construction, it has a really cool look when finished.
