This is usually what I do when outdoors, combine multiple interests. I took one of my metal detectors along and found some old pennies. Gathered up some tree sap and dug for old bottles. I am never bored outside as there are so many interesting things to do.

Temp. was just above zero and I laughed when this cold puffed up squirrel didn't want to move, early this morning.

Scored a great spot for Rose Hips, which I generally pick every fall after a frost.

There are less trees south of the Boreal, but that does not mean a lack of flammable materials

I left a little present for the coyotes out here. Forgot my granny pack of kleenex dammit. That dry fall grass is effective but a lot rougher on the soft spots.

Nice pics, looks like it was a fun day. Metal detecting is a lot of fun...its hard finding time fitting in all ones hobbies

Dry grass...haha..not much worse than getting bum scratched by dry grass. I was deer hunting last Saturday and had (with a capitol H) to take a FEBM (Field Expedient BM), fortunately the marsh grass had just gotten a half inch of wet snow that morning so it bunched up into a nice moist bundle and I was good to go.

Good stuff buddy, I've never been wanting for TP out in the bush but I've often thought that Thimbleberry leaves would work great if I did, they are as soft and large as the softest TP.;)

what do your squirrels eat up there!! It looks like he didn't move because his legs couldn't carry his weight. Great pics very good looking country.

Nice pics man. I love to take breaks when I am out working and just wander around seeing what all I can find.

Ya. I just sold off my motorcycle last fall before moving. I used to strap my old Becker Brute down my leg and ride my bike through town out to the bush. A few times the police took a lingering look at the knife as they drove by.

Ya, that wet or snowy grass can help, but man she wakes a guy up like a double black coffee ! :D

To this day I can't remember exactly what poison ivy looks like. Hope that I don't find out this way. ;)

Just curious, what do you do with the sap?

I use the sap as a fire accelerant. I can get a so-so fire (damp materials etc.) ripping much stronger by tossing some sap into it. Kind of like the idea behind Fatwood, which does not naturaly produce around here.

You just never know what you'll find eh ? An old car or rotting wooden wagon back in the brush. The huge owl that you scare up as it surprises the heck out of you also..............

Awesome, thanks for that info.
