Since everyone has been asking about new makers and having custom balsongs made, several months ago I took up the challange.

I like many others was not completely satisfied with the new Model 42

I have made a number of proto types and did several Jaguar reworks, ie jaguar blades on new handles as well as making new complete customs.

I have one in the works now for Sniperboy but until it is done, I thought I would share the photos of some of the other ones that I have done.

Here is the PhotoPoint link to my album

New photos will be added as knives are
finished.

Hope you enjoy them.

How it is Done

A number of years of experience working with machine tools and studing the overall design of the Original Bali-Song knives.

The blades are all hand ground from either 440C, ATS-34, D-2 or "Talonite".

Since I hand grind all of my blade from 3/16 inch blade stock, each is slightly different from the rest. No two are identical.

Blade styles follow for the most part the styles everyone knows, weehawk, tanto, drop point/utility, bowie ETC,

I prefer not to make double edge/spearpoint blades and do not normally offer any weehawk blades with the swedge sharpened due to the varation in state laws.

New handles can be made in 6061-T6 aluminum for the blades from broken Jaugar and BM series 100/200 knives. They follow a skeletonized pattern, but can be had with inlays in the aluminum.

The handles are made of the following materials; aluminum, stainless steel or brass/bronze and are available either skeletonized or with inlays. All are milled from bar stock

Pivot pins are 3/16" in diameter and made of 400 series stainless.

How I make the knives will be a trade secret for a little while longer.

What can I say...

COOL, COOL, COOL!!!!

Those are awesome examples of some nice pieces of work/experiments ... do you want to tell us a bit about how you made them? Or some tips?

Wow, those works are absolutely gorgeous!

I especially love the handles with 3 smaller holes, makes it look very fancy and jeweled.

Congratulations on your fine work.

HA........ very cool!

This is great. A little over a year ago there were very few options for us Bali fanatics.

Now we're finally getting some more choices.

....... how cool is this??

Nice work by the way Chuck (NOT Gollnick, although HE does some nice work too).

Well, ladies and gentlemen, we appear to have another new custom maker. This is very exciting. Those look like some very fine balisongs.

>> Can you make about 7400 of them in the next year or so?

They could do it in China
smile.gif
Last January, when I called my importer, they had 7000 of each color and style in stock, and they are pretty much sold out now. There are at least 100,000 china butterflys getting past customs, into this country each year. But they make a big deal out of confiscating my little shipment of 15 hand made batangas balisongs. Not that they do not go after the big guys, WYL lost a big China shipment to customs, but the guy is sort of a sitting duck, because he really does not even speak english and does not much know what he is doing. I am learning, if you want to go into the import business, you have to work out a deal with customs, before you try to bring it over here. In 1996 congress passed a law, so that you can make arrangements ahead of time as to what customs will allow in, and what they will not allow in. Thanks, JohnR7 WWW.BalisongKnife.Com

In reference to China and their copies of the Balisong knife.

Well, they have only a slightly different form of labor force.

Sorry but since every knife that I make, I make myself by hand.

Well let's just say that if I made 7400 in a year, they would look a lot like the Chinese ones.

And that ladies and Gentlemen is what I am trying to fight aganst by making the the kind of Balisong's that I do.

There are too many pieces of "Junk" floating around out there, being called Balisongs, butterfly knmives or what ever and they give the quality ones a bad name, and I include the FHM in the quality ones. They do amazing things with fewer tools.

The bad guys in the movies always seem to use the Balisong knife.

In fact I have had several inquires about making movie knives. When I ask how they will be used, it seems that I am always told that the villian will use it.

Because of that, you won't see any of my knives in the movies.

If I can't make a knife the the standards that I see every time that I pick up an Erickson or Turnbill, a Benchmade or one of its predecessors, I will quit making my knives.

I admitt the I got most of my ideas from the Benchmade Bali-Song, but it difficult to improve on perfection.

But I will keep trying.
smile.gif

Each knife I make is better than the last, and too many people today settle for mediocrity or "Well its almost the same thing".

There is no substitute for quality and pride in craftsmanship.

That is why I will never sell of give away any of my "seconds" and I do have a few.

If the knife isn't as perfect or close to perfect as I can make it, well it becomes a second and I start over.

So I don't think that I will try to make 7400 knives in the next year.
wink.gif

I will keep striving for perfection though.

Wow, those are seriously amazing... I really like the goldish handled balisong with the three holes thing... I also really like your 'signatures,' if I may call them, that you put on the tangs. I've always liked the Jag blades, and I've noticed that you've used on for this particually balisong, as well as some others in your photo album. I think it'd be super cool if you made a simular blade from scratch and put it on the same kind of handles as the goldish balisong. Keep up the great work, chuck... amazing... simply amazing...

Also, how much do you think you would be willing to sell one of these babies for? (the gold one with the three holes in particular)

Not only does he modify but he does complete customizing. (I think his pics there are being modest) he can do some nice stuff
smile.gif
you should drop him a line if interested.
