Hope that helps somewhat :)
and i hope its worth the view for folks. Just something for a lazy saturday afternoon :)

A Hi Power, very nice!! Thanks for sharing it with us. :)

John Moses Browning claimed the Hi Power to be his finest handgun creation. He felt it covered all the bases of what a sidearm should be.

I think he was wrong, and that the 1911 is the greatest handgun creation ever made.

I do like Hi Powers though. Alot.

I like 1911's more though. :D

I like it! A competition hi power came through my store the other day. Very cool.

I love my Hi Power. A discontinued .40 cal. I'm the only one to fire it, its over 20 years old. I'm never letting it go.

lol while i really like 1911's too
i've never seen one with more than an 8 round clip
i kinda prefer the 13 round clip that this 9mm lets me play with

but some day, when the money is right, i'd probably enjoy having both ;)

Looks good, man! I've always admired the Hi-power. IIRC, it was the first "double stack" magazine in a production handgun.

As for Hi-cap 1911-style guns: check out the para ordinance 14*45--and they have better! (insert evil laugh here)

Artistic becker-based pic. to compliment this conversation:

LOL,one of the local county mounties carries a 1911 with a 30 round mag.

triple stack? fingers that can palm a basketball? or just really long?

those glocks have 33 round magazines for most calibers too ;) but they're a bit LONG.

i have a 1911-a1 with match grade components. it's verah nice. it IS one of my favorites.
>>> pros: very solid. very accurate. night sights even. cool: 1911 100 year anniversary. quite slim. TIGHT construction. big bullets. very well made.

>>> cons: heavy (though not as heavy as my .22LR pistol); only 8 rounds but i have 4 spare magazines
>>> very expensive new $$$$ this one unless you get a very good deal walking in the store needing cash now and you intercept ;D

springfield armory makes a 1911-esque gun in .45 that holds 13+1 without magazine extenders/etc due to the double-stack which makes them not quite as slim; polymer frames as well. IDPA/IPSC match grade ready shooter with adjustable sights, typical price is around $750; or choose 9mm (19+1 !!) or .40 (16+1 !!!) if you want. see the hickock45 videos on this gun. i'm very excited about these. official springfield armory spc sheet: http://the-m-factor.com/html/specs_8.html

they also make '''The Springfield Custom Professional Model 1911A1 pistol is produced under contract by Springfield Armory for the FBI regional SWAT teams and the Hostage Rescue Team.[17] This pistol is made in batches on a regular basis by the Springfield Custom Shop, and a few examples from most runs are made available for sale to the general public at a selling price of approximately US$2,700 each.''' oogly moogly ;)

moose said "greatest handgun creation ever made"... that's a big claim :) most of the .45 shooters i talk to always quip "one shot, one kill". well, not so much. i know the history of 1911 and the reason behind it with the unstoppable murderous moro :> from the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1911_pistol

'''In response to problems encountered by American units fighting Moro guerrillas during the Philippine-American War, the then-standard Colt M1892 revolver, in .38 Long Colt, was found to be unsuitable for the rigors of jungle warfare, particularly in terms of stopping power, as the Moros had very high battle morale and frequently used drugs to inhibit the sensation of pain.'''

now, in what situations would one encounter someone who's tolerance to dying via drugs was common? :) seriously, imagine someone taking .38 several times and refusing to fall down? nice. ever read the about the peter soulis incident? no? this dinosaur wasn't even ON drugs, yet he KEPT GOING far beyond what you would expect someone to do: http://www.lawofficer.com/article/training/officer-down-peter-soulis-inci wow is all i can say.

so for survival, the gun you have with you is the gun you need to use to survive. to fight your way to a 1911 of some kind, then use that to fight your way to your battle rifle ;) escalate! brains molon labe zombies!

lol i need to get me a battle rifle (or at least a shotgun), THEN i think i can use my 9mm to fight to that :)

So how do you feel about .40's? I kinda like the idea of a .357 myself, pistol, not revolver
ohh soo many choices, so little money :)

+1 1911 ftw

Rsmith, the only 357 pistol I can think of easily is the Coonan - which is nice, but large and heavy.

I am pretty even BHP / 1911. I think both make a great BBQ gun. But I think you can get a lot more gun for a lot less money. Both platforms need a few tweaks to make them accurate and reliable.

I am an unapologetic 9mm fan and am a strong advocate of the Glock platform in general and the G19 in particular.
For the price of one good, well sorted 1911 you could get a G19 (15+1 9mm) and a G21 (13+1 45ACP)

The much told story about the 38 in the Phillipines is true - but it is worth noting that these were 38 Long Colts and not 38 Specials. They were also replaced with 45LC revolvers, not 45ACP autos. The real problem with the story is not that the gun was not up to task - the soldiers also Krag rifles. The problem was the Phillipino's had been fighting for about 2 decades and knew their business. A veteran fanatic with a big ass machete is more effective than a green soldier with a 38LC.

A 150gr bullet at over 700 fps is certainly enough to be considered lethal. Sure, it's less powerful than other options - but there is always a bigger gun. Shot placement is king, penetration is queen.

looked at a mosin-nagant today. very clean. russian. matching serials on everything, including bayonet... sadly, $60 over what it might be likely worth, esp for a shooter only platform. happily, LGS guy says come in next week for some cheaper goodness.

still no love on the 7.62x39 front. just want a good shooter that can do steel casing, and is not an AK.

an M1A might be much more fun.
