I currently forge all of my blades so the questions below are for forged knives primarily. Kinda corny maybe but I am doing some research...

1. What price points do you set for user, low end, mid range, high end, etc.
2. What are your current top wood handle picks? Two or three will suffice.
3. What percentage of knives purchased over the past year were damascus?

Thanks in advance for participation, I would like input from makers as well.

Hi Brett,

1) I find that $500 is the effective limit for a knife I will use. I have bought more expensive knives with the intent of using them, but somehow they end up being safe queens.

2) Woods - walnut, blackwood, ironwood, maple. I ran a "what's your favorite wood" thread a while back - if I can dig it up, I will link it for you.

3) My collection consistently runs 25-30% damascus. Highest it has ever been would be 40% or so.

1. For a user I try to stay under $750 for big knives (camp) and under $500 for a small knife.
2. Woods: walnut, blackwood, birch, buckeye
3. Over the past year I didn't buy any damascus knives.

Top 3 woods
1)Exhibition walnut
2)Exhibition Ironwood
3)Maple

I would actually like to buy more damascus as its easier to maintain. My orders are split between carbon and damascus 50%

Price point is tough. I think your prices are more than reasonable.

My users are usually under $750

brett....i'd agree with roger in regards to price.....i live in a populated city so price isn't too big a factor because usually all my users are small......as for woods....i like blackwood.....ironwood.....and most burled woods......as for the damascus .....i actually have alot of damascus users.....it just happened that way i guess......and i do have micarta handled damascus users....i know the horror........i don't know a percentage off the top of my head i'd say about 35 or 40 percent damascus right now......i do like them for users though......hope that helps some....ryan
