Just a hany little splitting axe

I got this little booger a while back and got to use it yesterday. This is my first dedicated wood splitter that I wanted for a local regional park. It works wonderfully and the effort needed to split wood is reduced to about a third from my old standard axe. This thing is lousy at chopping though, even with an edge touch up. This post means nothing to you aficionados, but for us ordinary Joes out there, this inexpensive little splitting axe is a darn handy tool. Those of you with a good back may want the longer X27 instead. My lower back is pooched and I split on one knee, or don't do hell bender full body swings. For a low to mid priced trunk beater this little axe is the cats pajamas for me.

Its all good. What ever works best for you. There are no doubt others than can benefit from your post. And like you said it didn't break the bank.

You're not the first to sing the praises of Fiskars splitting axes.

Ya, that happens on forums. :) I grabbed the tiny X7 ? hatchet the other day. Now the wife can play also and leave my Wett. and G.B. alone. No one touches them now, I can just hand over a Fiskars. :D I like these Fiskars axes actually, they are fun in a camp site. I'm going back up to the Boreal forest next month for another visit. The X25 splitter is always in the trunk, but I'll bring the little one along to play with also.

I own two of the hatchets alongside my increasing pile of "nicer" stuff and the fiskars is what I take backpacking. It's not fancy but it's tough to beat the for weight and its a durable and effective chopper.

I hear you. I know that other axes have more cache' and speak an older language of quality and tradition. But these axes sure seem to give good value. For about $75.00 I got a larger splitter and a little hatchet, both useful and practical. As opposed to my Wett. hatchet and G.B. axe which were over $200.00 together up here. I like them all. :)
