Ive been looking for a medium sized fixed blade for camping and hunting and still am far from any sort of a conclusion but im hoping this will enlighten me on some things ive had some concerns with. Please bear with me as this may seem odd but below ive c/p two different knife specifications. By these specifications alone how much would you pay for these 2 knives (individually), its obvious one of these is a better knife so im in a way trying to see, without a brand or any sort of bias and based on the specifics alone if anyone really feels that one of these knives is truly 4x (based on msrp) better than the other. This probably seems a bit weird but i hope you get the general idea of what im trying to do here.
And please remember the name of the game isnt to guess the brand/model as a simple google search will tell you or quite possibly just your own knife knowledge. If you do happen to know or figure it out please dont take that into consideration.

I never saw a question mark but I think I know what you're after.

1. Appx. $200-250
2. Appx. $100-125

I don't think the more expensive one will offer 4x as much utility. I also think 0.20" is a little thick for a 4" blade, but that's based on my own uses and preferences.

After googling, I stand by my first thought :D

EDIT Two additional points: First, I should probably answer your question. For 1 I'd pay ~$100, for 2 I'd pay ~$50. Second, I think for the price of 1 you could probably find a better (more useful) knife.

Already know which blades you are considering :).

You should consider how important corrosion resistance is to you, as that is a big differentiator between these knives. Vg-10 is a stainless steel, while any variant of 1095 will corrode (rust). 1095 should be tougher though. And while the ability to rust sounds scary, I would say as long as you're ok with some basic maintenance you should be fine with 1095. I have several from "knife #2's manufacturer" and have had no problems with rust, and I live about 3 miles from the coast.

If it were me, id save my money and get the second knife :). Your needs might be different than mine though.

Off-hand, a few $40~$75 knives would fit that #2 description.

Specs don't alone determine a knife's "value".

You didn't mention the most important specs (to some folks, at least) - Where and by whom were these knives made??

without a brand or any sort of bias and based on the specifics alone if anyone really feels that one of these knives is truly 4x (based on msrp) better than the other.

I don't think the first is 400% better than the second. 50% better perhaps.
But, as you probably know, by the time you reach the $100 mark you're well into the Law of Diminishing Returns for common mass-produced fixed blade knives. $70-100 is the sweet spot for me.

I would choose the second for the larger size and thinner profile. 0.17" is plenty thick for me and I don't need corrosion resistance, personally. More handle length is also a plus.

Ide pay no more than $150 for the Fallkniven. I feel like their leather handles are WAY OVERPRICED ... I mean blade #1

No more than $80 for the Kabar/Becker BK16... Eeeerrrrr.... I mean blade #2

Ide go with blade #1 if that was my choice. The convex grind and leather sheath would really tip me to that blade. Both are nice and well made, and it is rare I choose a non USA made blade, but Japanese made are my second to USA. Other than a similar blade profile, the grinds and steel choices make these knive too different to really compare there prices.

It was mentioned above that warranty and country of origin may factor in to individual decisions on worth.

The fallkniv..er... VG10 knife has more 'class' for aesthetics, definitely pretty.
It presents corrosion-resistance and edge-retention for an advantage in hunting/skinning applications, but it is also excessively thick at the spine and maybe at the edge as well, resulting in inferior performance. In its price-range, you might find something with better performance AND maybe aesthetics (and a longer-lasting warranty) here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/754-For-Sale-Fixed-Blades

The Bec..er... 1095CV knife may be more comfortable in-use due to handle-length and shape, more useful with the thinner stock and extra blade length, but I'm not sure it's any thinner behind the edge and the steel is weaker/cheaper (but should be tougher). It has far less 'class' and you may end up wanting to upgrade the sheath and handle-scales and maybe strip the blade... and at that point you may wish you'd bought a different knife entirely (lots of producers offer knives in this size-range, variety of prices to get what you really want) ... but customization can be a lot of fun if you didn't pay much for the knife to begin with ;) . Also, solid warranty

My $0.02 - each knife is worth what you are willing to pay. I own neither of the above knives but have owned a few others in the size-range, prices mostly between the two being discussed.
