Just a plain watch?

Are there any decent quality watches that are just that...a watch? No day/date. No chronographs. No bells or whistles. Just something that reliably tells time and can withstand everyday life.

Well I'm completely satisfied with my Fossil Relic Wet.

But I guess if you really want no nice functions then you should check Walmart.

There are vast numbers of just plain watches with no gimmickry -- but what do you mean by "decent" -- $50? $10,000? Besides different prices there are different styles ... do you want a thin gold gentleman's watch or a big steel military watch? Check out www.timezone.com ...

Paul, do you mean conservative, standard, or simple?

If you don't care to be conservative but want simple, here's one extreme.

I'm leaving now. I hear faschon polizei chasing me...

Ok, I was kind of vague. I'm looking for something in stainless, under $350.
Micheal, nice line up!! What brands are they?

Check out the Hamilton Khaki watches . They're available all over the net and you can even get them with an automatic movement.
Other than that, try Seiko. They have an extensive line, some with automatic movements also.

Most of them have a pretty decent selection of better watches. From Swiss Army to Breitling and Omega. Tag, Citizen, Movado. All at VERY competitive prices (Usually 35% of retail). As Costco is not an authorized dealer for most of the stuff, the selection will change over time, but you can find some real nice stuff there and they stand behind everything they sell.

I've recently seen a pretty plain Hamilton in around your price range there.

Paul, I know you said no day/date, but I'm still going to recommend Fortis Pilot Automatic. It's $ 308,- on strap and $ 366,- on bracelet (excellent quality BTW) from www.skw.net
There are other Fortis sources on the web too. I live in Denmark and bought mine from www.smwatches.com/

Tough, reliable and very much a no nonsense watch!

Mate, I stiumbled onto an excellent watch site. They sell all their
watches with free shipping:D The link below is the watch I wear
everyday. It is simple easy to read and (this is the part I like)
bullet proof;) .

A local jewler sells a lot of this model to farmers and factory
workers because it not only looks good it is tough. Mine has been
in service for 4 years now and it keeps really accurate time. :D

So give it a look at the current price ($89) it's a bargain supreme
for what you get.

I noticed no one has mentioned Luminox watches. I just got one, model 3602, with a solid titanium case and band. The only gimmick, if you call being able to read your watch in the dark a gimmick, is the tritium that glows in the dark. Other than that it is a simple watch. No other little watches in the face, no three or four buttons to press, and no night lite to see the time. There is a little window for the date, but not the day. I bought this because I had/have a steel cased one with cf bezel that I have put through the paces in the past 3 or 4 years. Still runs and keeps great time, just scratched all to pieces and not looking good cosmetically. Thinking I will send it in for a recondition. This all titanium watch is under the $350.00 you have set. Check out www.luminox.com

I bought one of the Khaki automatics a couple of years ago. It's a nice movement. You can hardly hear it, it keeps good time, and you don't have to track down some oddball battery. :)

I bought mine on sale, but it's normally around $300. Very plain, all stainless. But, it does have a date window.

About a year ago I purchased a Timex from Campmor via the internet.
They have closeout watches periodically.

Mine was 20 dollars. It has a stainless band and is water resistant to 150 feet. White face. Simple watch and I can't seem to kill it.

I wear it at work, and it has survivied numerous scuffles with inmates.

I'd buy another one if it broke.
