I wanted to drop a line here and let you all know I have my Cobra 4P up and running as of a few weeks ago. I am busily sewing square after square of leather (around in circles) to become competent with the machine before I put any sheaths to it.

It is a crazy thing to behold when you have only done stitching by hand. You finish a project and think - I would have gotten about 8 holes punched by now...

I will have some changes to make in design to accommodate the machine - and I think some patrons will always want hand sewed - but I am happy to provide both.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped me take the leap. I am in the planning for a Cobra 18 Flatbed and a Class 14 splitter. I have the money but need to take things one at a time.

Congrats Jason! Me too I want the splitter, their skivver and a 4 too.

Jason, I'm sure you have figured out that you can run the machine by hand using the wheel and pre-punch your stitching holes should you decide to hand stitch something. Just use a lager needle like a 27 or 28.

Paul - that is the advice I needed. I think I am going to start prepunching until I get perfect with the front tack and back tack - it will take a LOT of time off. Thank you for thinking ahead for me.

I am doing a LOT of coasters and when I mess one up - I just move the line in a little and make a million stitch lines until I run out of room. If I had a lot more time to just practice I think I could have it in a few weeks - but - I have customers and am not comfortable yet switching over. I know I will be soon and I know I needed to do this for my future.

I think I order the 18 next week.

Jason, you are way more patient than I was :) I practiced a week or two and just had to jump right into using my machine. And yeah...I've had a few that ended up in the trash bin..... But if I'd have thought about using the machine to punch holes without the thread I for sure would have started with that. I'm still learning and will probably end up with some more work in the garbage heap before all is said and done. Looking forward to seeing some of your work posted once you get up and going with the Cobra.

Amy,

We live fairly close to one another. We could make a BUNCH of trash projects in a weekend and maybe learn something. ;)

Patience is a virtue of mine - but waste is something I just hate.

I looked you up on Facebook and sent a friend request - there is a Cobra 4 facebook group that is well taken care of. I will send you the link.
