I got this on Saturday from a friend of mine that more or less dropped out of the knife making business a few years back. His name is Daniel Ehrenberger and he was once on the verge of being a mastersmith. He mainly specialized in large bowies and hunters. I had him make several of these in various handle materials, but they all seem to slip through my hands over time;) He had this one in progress and I finally got him to finish it-I'm keeping this one! It is 7 7/8" overall and the steel is 1095. It has a tapered tang too. Nothing fancy, but it's wicked sharp. I do need to get a sheath made though, because I got tired of waiting on him to make one:D

Here's an example of some of Daniel's fancier work. This one sold on Ebay a while back for right at the $1000 mark...I wish I had bought it:D It was to be one of his Mastersmith test knives, but he didn't get all five done. The judges said he would have passed:)

I like the smaller one. Looks like it would be a good size carry knife.

Beautifull, love the bone handles on that one. First class work.

That drop point hunter is perfect, Durwood, perfect. Knives like that one are really growing on me.

Simple, understated, great looking, multifunctional tools.

I challenge somebody to come up with something you couldn't do with that knife (not including things you shouldn't do with any knife).

Yep, Daniel was getting pretty good. Then, he dropped off the knife planet. Is he going to continue making knives?

Danbo, sadly, I have to say I think it would be very unlikely to see much if anything from Daniel in the near future...maybe in a few years. Daniel definately had an eye for design and flow, and though some of his last several pieces (Sorry Daniel) were a little shoddy, he was capable of making a dang fine knife. I keep pushing Daniel to make a few knives, but he keeps resisting. I've even tried to get him to do some stock removal...

Daniel says that he sees himself eventually making a few damascus hunters again---Time will tell. Another source has told me that Daniel let his ABS membership expire and therefore his is technically no longer a journeyman smith....I told him to pay the dues.:grumpy:
