I am bored so here we go. I am not really sure of the intent of this post; I just wanted to do something that involved my two favorite blades as of now. So here we go, hope you enjoy……

A about a year ago I bought my first knife over $60 after much research. My much used and loved Esee RC-4 was the result. This is my go-to knife when weight is an issue. The flat ground 3/16” 1095 is just what the doctor ordered for small/medium tasks. I have taken it on canoeing trips, backpacking trips, day-hiking trips. It performs much better than you would expect for its size. Using and abusing my RC-4 made me want more! I wanted something bigger but with the same amazing weight to performance ratio. I again went through my process of researching and asking around and I had some in mind. This research included most of the major brands mostly being Fallkniven, Bark River, Esee, SOG, Swamp Rat and SYKCO. I wanted something that could perform above and beyond the status quo for its size category. One evening a couple weeks ago I saw the opportunity to get a stripped lightly used SYKCO 711. SYKCO was on my list but I had strayed away from Busse-Kin knives because of their lengthy wait time. I had previously never bothered looking in the used market out of habit. Impulsively I snatched it up! I love the 711, for being ¼” thick its only 14 oz. It’s proficient at chopping and batoning. The Res-C handles are very comfortable even with gloves but not overly grippy. It is a heavy knife but feels light in the hand, because its size to performance ratio I wouldn’t be opposed to taking this backpacking. I purchased an ACU Long Spec Ops Combat Master for it. These two paired fantastically, the blade fits perfectly and stays put without the strap even when held upside down. The combat master pouch would fit my Leatherman Sidekick. The length of the combat masters loops are the perfect length, right at point where my hand falls naturally.

As many of you know the pouch in the combat master is a bit small, not fitting an altoids time even with some elbow grease. I was able to fit some useful items in there regardless.

I was feeling inventive so I made a pouch for my Esee 4 sheath. I could have made the Esee Accessory pouch work but I used something I already had on hand. I used an old digital camera pouch that conveniently fits an altoids tin. I found that I could fit more without it so I scrapped it. I took all of the hardware off of my Esee 4 sheath and lined up the new pouch. I heated up a nail with an open flame and melted through the back of the nylon pouch using the holes in the kydex as a stencil. The Tek-Lock hardware was just long enough to fit through the kydex and nylon.

I did a modification on an Ontario RBS-6 I had on hand so I bought a sheath intending on selling them together. I got the cheapest short combat master I could find which was in tan. When it arrived I fell in love with the color. I previously had not been a huge fan of the color but I see what people see in it. I ended up putting the Ontario up for sale without the sheath and now have a combat master that needs a knife. Again up to my old ways I am going through my process of stewing and research. I am thinking of the Fallkniven S1, I realized that the A1 would fit but S1 is more my type of knife. It’s steel is good and the weight is great for the size.

I am not really sure where I was going with this so yeah. Thanks for looking! Let me know what you think. Anyone know how well the S1 will fit in the short combat master? I know modifications to the liner will be needed but I would be interested in seeing the fit.
