Just a collection of random photos from a walk in the woods today (Central Missouri).

The tracks in this piece of cedar were interesting.

I knew I needed some knife content so, we stopped and made some feather sticks.

Not everything had a great day in the woods today:

I love taking walks in the woods in the late fall and winter. You notice and appreciate different things as compared to when things are green. If there is snow, it adds to a completely different experience relative to fair weather hikes.

Great pictures. It is so relaxing to walk in the woods and look at nature. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys. My sons and I go on these day hikes often. I try to go year round, but it is not always easy to convince them to come along (if it is super cold, wet, raining, or super hot/humid). The cold is often easy enough to deal with as long as I bring a stove and some hot chocolate...then they really enjoy it;)

The best time of the year in the woods for me is when it is really cold. Nice pics.

awesome pics..... if only cedar could be used for knife scales :D that wood looks nice, and I have a funny feeling it looks even nicer inside.....

beautiful knife, excellent steel, beautiful area what more can you ask for.. ??

Thanks. Cedar is beautiful inside. I have carved many projects from it (we have plenty of deadfall cedar around here). It is not easy to work with and not durable, but as you know it smells wonderful and looks amazing for that brief week or two after it is carved but before it dries to a duller color scheme.

I know it is fleeting beauty, but I never feel the effort is wasted in carving something beautiful. These are some examples I had stored in my phone...they are not the best examples of how to use the pinks and purples in the heart, but hopefully those who are unfamiliar will gain understanding of the beauty inside.

Nice photos, I wanted to bring honey locust saplings back from my last trip up there and plant them all around the edge of my land. I wanted to end up with a relatively thick "hedge" of them all around me but my friend talked me out of it saying I'd regret it later.

Excellent photos, I need to make some time to have a hike soon. Though its still 85 degrees here in florida :P

Nice pics bud. It can just be as simple as a walk for me to bring it all back into perspective.
