I know you guys like free reviews and promo as much as the next guy, but personally I don't think anyone should be starting websites for your trademarked product and claiming copyright for TransEquatorial Solutions, Inc registered names.

Saw this up at the Survivalist Boards and wanted to share with the Esee Crew.

Might want to send an email or have your laywers send a cease and desist, but that is just my opinion.

just looked like a simple history and review, with a bunch of reviews from youtube and links to amazon to buy. didnt seem to be doing anything to me but being excited about the izula.

i dont think he was claiming any trademarks. he certainly gave full credit for design and makers.

Seems like it was all with good intention, but I hope they got permission/grace from Jeff and the gang before setting it up.

I agree. After checking out the site I did'nt see anything to get alarmed about either. In fact, I never even saw this ' Trans-what-ever' he called it mentioned.

It's one of two things. It could be a well meaning site setup for the Izula.

It could also be a shill to get a good SEO ranking on the site so it can be used for back links.

I am not questioning his intentions at all as the site currently is presented.

However, Izula is a registered trademark belonging to TransEquatorial Solutions, Inc. and while his intentions are good at this moment, he controls the content of a site with a trademarked Esee product name on it. That is not something that I would allow anyone else to do with the over 30 trademarks that my company owns.

However, I just wanted to inform that it was up, up to them what they do.

The only thing I found offensive about that site was a lack of link to ESEE's website.

But really, if anyone buys an Izula because of that site, its money in ESEE's pockets with free advertisement, and the guy who owns the site might get a percentage from his Amazon links. Everybody wins.

Damn good thing there aren't any Corvette websites with Corvette in the name. Or Glock websites with Glock in the name! Scary!

I don't know much about the legalities of using the name on the site but to me it just seems like a harmless fan-based site giving accolades to the knife and its makers.

Now if it was a disney character or harry potter site he would be in BIG trouble with the law... ;-)

I would have preferred a little more credit to go to ESEE Knives and a link to their website, though. Aside from that, it's a fairly harmless "I love this knife" web site.

Its just a fan site with amazon links to take advantage of their affiliate program. People do it all the time, you get $$ for traffic trade and purchases made.

Sometimes people get confused about trademark and copyright law, you can't stop someone from making a website that advertises a legitimate non-counterfeit, legally obtained Izula knife. You could however stop (or try to stop) someone from selling another type of knife IF they were using one of ESEE's trademarks to do it. Say if you clicked on the Izula ant logo and the link brought up another non ESEE knife.

That however does not seem to be the case.

Yes, this is exactly what they are doing.

Not a fan site... the motive is to make money plain and simple. This guy probably has 100 of these for all different kinds of products. Just like almost every other review site out there, the goal is to drive people through your site to the affiliate program. Takes less than an hour to put one up after you have the template. Ha, this guy probably doesn't even own an Izula. If I owned all the products I put up review sites for I'd be a very poor man.

The concern for me was not the content of the site, not the links to retailers none of that. Anyone can do that with anything as long as it is not slanderous, which this is not.

The concern for me was that the url contains a registered trademark belonging to Esee and their parent company, which to someone doing a Izula google search could be confusing. I thought Esee should know. If it was my trademark I would try to stop it if nothing more than to have complete control over my registered trademark, which is why we trademark things to begin with. Trademarking is a tool used to protect names and identies of certain product. I am well versed in what trademarks are used for and how they are used, as I said earlier my family business owns over 30 of them.
