Figured it's time I wrote something here.

Well, the ONE tool which has NEVER EVER left my side (and by this I mean from DAY-ONE) would simply have to be my "Toollogic-original Credit Card Companion".
A strange relationship we shared, this close "companion" and I ;-)
How close you would ask?
Well, for one - its got a hand on my money so deep in my pocket, that even my closest of kin can't even hope to reach, EVER!
But you know what?
I just know that my trusted "companion" would constantly stand by me even if that wallet of mine goes completely limp with no "plastic".
I guess it was love at first sight when I saw her gleaming brilliantly on a counter one day.
Oooo, perhaps 'bout six or was it eight years ago it was?
When I picked her up the first time, I just knew I wasn't about to let her go.
Next thing I knew I was in a complete daze in the store except when I walked out the street next.
I was suddenly overcomed by a renewed sense of confidence that there ain't nothing I wasn't going to be prepared for.
For the longest time since, I was now walking free of fear.
For I was no longer alone, "companion" at side.
I could stay out late, walk into alleyways and it didn't bother me none where I was put up.
Well, its been about six or eight years now; and I haven't laid so much as a finger on my "companion". I never needed to as there were always other tools for the job (more about that later).
Did I make a mistake buying a companion? No, I don't think so.
In fact it has been like some sort of goodluck charm to me.
Knowing that I wasn't exactly going about "empty handed" in some neck of the woods.
But we can't be all too careful these days.
And now there are times where I have been told that my "companion" wasn't welcomed.
It been a tough call to make, to have to leave my trusty "companion" at home more times than I would have liked to. But that's the reality of it. And its nearing bothersome. What should I do?
Change company? Move away? Forget that I ever had a trusty companion?
Get a new tool!
So I did. This time around no more wallet hide-aways.
Before it was good knowing that I had along a magnifiyer, compass, a screwdriver/can opener, tooth pick & tweezer.
It was really great knowing you had all those magical "problem solvers", if you ever needed them around, that is.
But, I never did get around to using those features on my original tool.
Guess its was time to say "good-bye fellas".
Now hold on there a minute, you ask.
If you get rid of all those tools there, you ain't left with nothing but a blade??!
Yup! Apparently.
But then that ain't going to much of a tool left, is there?
Not quite. In comes the Toollogic SL1M.
Its fitted with a built-in whistle and 4-cell LED minilamp. Has a steel clip and lanyard hole.
And an amazingly useful 2 inch blade that resembles one of those more classic Spyderco mini knives. You know, I actually had a hard time deciding which to pick. The full size or mini? The full size or the mini? Then it dawned on me that what I really required was something micro size. Besides I wasn't prepared to pay a whole lot more for a larger blade that was going to be made out of the same generic surgical steel type. Why the mini? It was cheaper, does about exactly the samething as the full size. But more importantly, I had some strange feelings that the mini was actually developed for urban carry post 9/11. If you compare the blade shapes on both sizes, you will note that the full size blade has a near sheepsfoot pattern. Whilst the mini is more of a spearpoint. This alone made the mini a more appealing package, for me at least. The LED isn't going to blind anyone but I find this a most useful feature as well. On last count I had actually used this tool far more as a torch than for anything else. IMHO the Minitool makes a pretty good back-up where ever you may be.
Could it be improved? Basically it's a neat little package, but it would be good if some more modules be worked out for the mini so that it could be custom fitted for use. For a start, a set of four different replacable blades could be introduced. I can see the use of a seat belt cutter, mini talon and serrated sheepsfoot, besides the present spearpoint. I understand it would be costly if a better steel was introduced but then that's why there should be an optional blade set in the market. And, oh yeah, a thicker liner-lock would be a good thing too.
The option of having a red LED should be considered to. Would be great if other tool options like the common cross/Philips screw or even torx drivers be moduled for a piggyback carry instead of the present LED alone. I believe there's plenty of room for improvement in spite of its size. Ok, right about now, some of you fellas would probably be saying, "so carry a SAK already!". The fact is, I do. And being a knife kind of guy, one isn't really ever quite enough. Thanks for listening. And no folks, no reply is necessary.
