but what an amazing knife so i just had to share with you folks.
picked this one up from david farmer off the makers forum here on bf
it came razor sharp(i am continually amazed just how many makers send their knives out NOT razor sharp-its a knife! made to cut! duh-or the warning on email or otherwise to "be careful, its sharp" well, yeah, its a knife its SUPPOSED to be sharp!)
anyways i have used this knife every single day in the shop since it arrived. and i am thrilled with just how efficient this blade is. it hasnt seen the woods yet. but i bought it for shop work and it excells.
thanks david

(i know those look like sticks-well, they are, but one day the will be hunting arrows. one of the more mundane steps in making arrows-scraping off the bark...)

That looks like such a utilitarian design...I like it!

Thanks for the link! Never ventured outside the production realm, have to keep my eye on new products. Really dig the style.

Nice one! His handle wraps are really comfortable to use as well

the makers forum on bf is a great place to pick up quality steel.
and all handmade! i have a few production knives but they dont touch the quality(usually) of the customs. and there are many offerings out there that rival production prices. there are some great knife makers on this forum. check out the bushcraft challenge going on right now. amazing knives!

Yeah DF always puts a great edge on his blades. I have one of his camp knives and it's one of my best cutters.

right on.. that is a cool looking knife.. i have been a fan of his work for a long time now... he puts a scary sharp edge on all of his knives.. i also recently picked up one David's "tribal utility's"... i love it so much, that i just emailed him about getting a few more..

Nice knife. You really start with such big diameter wood to shape arrows? You scrape it down to a final with a knife? Interesting. I used to take straight willow sticks already almost the right diameter, fire harden them- but I was a kid. Moved on to black powder, then into modern reloading. “Anyhow”
Thoughts on why some knives sold sharp- some not. I have sold knives at shows and had many people pick them up and first thing they want to do is run a thumb along the edge. Such people may have never in their life held a ‘real knife’ or one that was sharp. I could get sued if someone cut there finger off, but more, there is a lost sale, there is a fuss, there is a clean up. Blood on my nice display on my business cards- on my clean shirt. There is an interruption at the show. No one sympathizes with my screams of: “Any idiot stupid enough to run a finger along the edge and press, does not deserve to own a finger!” Some knives can be made so sharp you’d never even feel it cut. Next- I myself prefer to put my own final edge on my good knives I use. We all have our personal way we hold it, use it, feather it. It’s going to get dull anyhow if we use it, so we need to know how to put the edge on anyhow. And putting a final perfect edge on can take me half an hour by hand. If I want to sell that knife – how many buyers want to pay for an extra half hour of my time tacked on to the price? I thus prefer to sell it sharp enough for the average customer to use, but minus the final tough. Those who purchase will have a different definition of what ‘sharp’ means and ‘average use’ means. Most knife makers I assume would be glad to put the final edge on if asked to. I chuckle, guess as a knife maker have sympathy for the creators of the blades and what is expected. So just some thoughts tossed out here.

1095 is a good choice. It's one of my favorite steels.

Sounds like his heat treat is really good.
