K55 was used by Otter Mercator, a Solingen Germany based knife manufacturer on a classic lock back knife style. The sprawled out cat was their logo. They made and make other knives, as well.

According to my research, the "K55K" and leaping cat trademarks originally belonged to the German (Solingen) metalware company Heinrich Kaufmann & Sohne (Hy. Kaufmann & Sons), who also produced the original version of the "Mercator" knife. Kaufmann & Sons went out of business in 1995, and Otter-Messer acquired the "K55K" and leaping cat trademarks, and began making their own version of the Mercator knife after that.

I'm guessing that's a "8" on the tang of the blade and not an infinity symbol. That, and the rest of the marks on the tang (the portion covered by the handles) are likely manufacturing marks of some kind.

The tang stamp from a different model of bowie showing "Kaufmann & Sons" with the "K55K" trademark.
