Pretty darn smooth right out off the box...then again that's just my perception, this is a whole new level for me...I know this is probably heresy but, having had it only an hour... I am going to go slice up a garage full of boxes with it right now. Should make the wife happyCongrats. Also know its going to break in some from use and get much smoother. With the polished blade you have a head start on that.
