Got the Even heat finally on order...........man that one hurt but wil lbe well worth it. Can you say GIANT temering oven :)

You'll love it Brian. I just inquired about a Paragon. They're built on order, takes four months. Even though I have the atmosherpic furnace, I'd like to get an oven for higher temps then what I'm getting.

I want to be able to heat treat about 10 blades, large and small in one after noon, plus try d2 with satin finishes :) Cant you oil quench d2?

guess I am just used to oil :) Luckily, I have the RC tester so I can narrow my learning curve somewhat. I have heat treating info ready to go........just need to get foil and learn a good way to wrap them :)

I've got lots of cool tools in my shop, but the thing I want for most is just what you ordered. I'd love to have an oven.

Color me jealous.

Enjoy,

Brian, I oil quench D2 because of my set up being outside. If you have your oven in your shop try plate quenching D2. That's another reason I want to get an electric oven.

Id love to own an oven....freedom of steels, guarantee of temps, soak times with accuracy, thermal cycles.....all of which are very hard to do with a forced air propane forge. I can't justify the purchase with lots of faving to be done for a house, an engagement ring, etc....but its the next huge purchase on my list!

OK, for a greenhorn like me, who is just starting to mentally drool over the prospects, how expensive is expensive for a knifemaker's oven?

800 and it goes up from ther so far as price
and while im far from a part time maker (might make 12-15 a year) i just love the flexablity of having a kiln
ooo and i can do glass work and pottery too
