A dealer friend that goes to a lot of shows comes up with these for me every once in a while. I just bot a Benchmade custom 4 inch balisong, skeletonized brass handles, Samson ground Imada High Hollow blade. The blade was perfect and the brass looks like gold after being cleaned up. I'll get around to posting a pic, when I figure out how to do it. I have the digital camera and USB card reader, I just need to practice.

More than likely a Bali-Song USA or Pacific Cutlery custom if it has brass handles; can't wait to see it!

I wasn't thinking. It has a butterfly logo on the blade, so I guess it is a Bali-song. I take a closer look at how it was marked. I was so excited I wasn't paying attention to the details.

WOW, I can't wait to see pictures of the knife that you BOT, it sounds like a really nice balisong. ;)

truth be told.. I havent been jealous of someone else bali in a long time.. brass imda.. very nice :)

You may have been better off NOT cleaning the patina from the handles though, you may have taken from it's value.

It'll come back in a month or two but will take years to get that real dark color. The brass handled one I got had been polished up before being sent to me:(and it's finally getting it's patina back:). I really wouldn't mind if I had the knife what the brass looked like! ;) :D

The handles looked like sh-t, the patina was very uneven. IF this was some fine antique or coin or other relic, I would agree about the patina. However, with modern knives the more pristine their condition the better. Patina does help in some situations, I just don't think this is one of them. The knife looks much better this way. If anything, it looks more valuable.

i dont belopng to any smithsonian clubs or read any of their journals but from experience brass handle balis I move on do not depreciate in price despite me "educating" the buyer on patinas ansd whatnot...

For me Patinas look real ugly and serve little purpose than to authenticate that a knife is truly old.. but in a BS cutlery piece there are other ways..

to each their own I am not a historian :), I have not polished my brass balis.. more out of laziness more than anything.

Excessive is subjective, but yes, it is the natural darkening of the brass with age. I like it when it occurs slowly, naturally, and evenly.

And...(coff, Ack)...Er,...Um...What, just for reference,...did you happen to pay for this gem?

;) :D

A fair price. The patina was very uneven and in any case the knife looks amazing polished up. I'll make an effort to take a picture this weekend. I have to force myself to learn the ins and outs of digital photography and the web. I have all the equipment and have been procrastinating terrribly. I have a bunch of stuff I wnat to take pics of to sell on Ebay. The New York Knife Show is coming up shortly.
