I bought 2 Rekat neck knives recently that I love, but can not find any information on them, someone told me they thought they were ATS-34 steel but wasn't sure. Other than that I know nothing about them, like the coatings etc. I have found information on Rekat neck knives but not this model, actually I don't know the models either so any info I would appreciate. I set up one of the sheaths to carry as a boot knife and the other as a neck knife, either way the knives are great. I wish Rekat was still around making these they seem great especially for the money, I picked them both up for around 29 bucks apiece. Not bad? they were hold overs in the shop that a customer ordered and never came in to pick up.
Pics below..............

That knife is the REKAT Fang. They were made in ATS-34 and 1095 (you can tell which steel dependent on which side the "eye" is on- can't remember which is which). Yes, $29 is a great price, especially since they aren'y made anymore.

Thanks TRAV1 now can do a better search by name. Anyone know the finsh? and remember how to tell the metal? maybe Trav will remember soon :)

I have a couple of these myself, Tom, a Birdsong Black-T coated 1095 & a stone washed finish ATS-34. Both of mine have the eye on the left side but the logos are different. The ATS-34 looks like the logo was chemically etched with "REKAT" above, "U.S.A." below, & ATS-34 to the right of the eye. The 1095 one has a larger eye that is actually cut into the metal & no text.

The other notable difference in mine is the grind. The ATS-34 looks much like your picture 2. The grind on the 1095 is much steeper (i.e., more flat than bevel on the blade).

IIRC, the 1095 was the first version but I believe they kept it in the line-up even after introducing the ATS-34. Other than the obvious ATS-34 text, I don't know if the logos or grinds can be used to determine the steel that was used. These stylistic differences may simply indicate different production runs.

They are great knives in either steel & you did get a bargain. Enjoy them! ;)

Thanks Brian. I love the knives. I been carrying one as a boot knife for about a month and a half and decided yesterday to go ahead and buy the other one to use as a neck knife or just put up and so I would have another sheath to carry in a diff. position, since the price was so low I go the other knife and sheath for the price of haveing a kydex sheath made or cheaper.
They are small but very useable knives and I don't care to much what steel they are they work just fine it's just a curiosity thing to me. I just read elsewhere that they have a Black T coating (black teflon).
I'd like to see your stone washed finished one if you have pics of it. I'm wanting the straight version of the knife now, I think it was called the Rekat Utility Neck Knife. Looks like it would be nice too.

You're welcome, Tom. BTW, the full name of this piece was the Hobbit Fang. Unfortunately, I don't have pix of my stone washed one & my digital camera needs new batteries. I blew up your picture to get a close look at the logo. It appears to be etched like mine but "ATS-34" is not next to the eye, leading me to believe it may be 1095.

I have the drop point utility it is proably the handiest little knife I own.the one I have is 1095 steel and sharpens easily and holds edge very well.mine came with an excellent sheath and extra set up for belt carry. The only regret I have is not getting at least two more because now my two sons take time about carrying it.

gailt Wise, VA? not to far away, I used to know the Chief of Police there, hmmm Tony Bates? or is that Norton? anyway come up and see us sometime.
